  • $65,000-75,000 9-month contract, Exempt

Purpose of Position

The Department of Education Health and Behavior Studies, invites applications for a 9-month Clinical Assistant Professor with additional summer opportunities, to teach courses in the Master of Arts in Counseling Online Program. In addition to teaching, the candidate hired for this position will advise students and participate in service for the program. The contract start date is August 16, 2024, contingent on available funding.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate courses in an online asynchronous format. Will teach approximately 3-4 credits per semester in the Master of Arts in Counseling Online Program dependent on courses, advising, and service responsibilities;

  • Provide academic advising to students;

  • Assist the Online M.A. Counseling program with service tasks as needed;

  • Fulfill service roles in the Counseling Programs; this may include occasionally serving on MA scholarly or independent research project committees, or admissions committees;

  • Provide service to the university, college, department, and professional associations.

  • Successful applicants should have teaching and service interests that align with counseling as a field, including those that focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Competencies

  • Engage in academic advising graduate students in a distance, online method;

  • Available to work online for teaching, advising, and engaging in other administrative and service activities;

  • Strong organization skills and conscientiousness; ability to successfully navigate a workload comprised of teaching, advising, and other service-related tasks;

  • Professionalism and interpersonal skills and ability to sensitively navigate issues of disagreement which may arise with students/supervisees;

  • Commitment to multiculturalism and social justice orientation and commitment to continued intrapersonal and interpersonal growth;

  • Counseling ethical awareness, ability to identify instances of real or potential ethical infractions and take action accordingly.

  • Ability to utilize or learn relevant technology





Minimum Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in Counseling, Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology or a closely related field.

  • Be a licensed counselor or psychologist in North Dakota, or be license-eligible and willing to actively pursue licensure in a time-sensitive fashion.

  • Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching and advising graduate students in an online asynchronous setting;

  • Experience advising or supervising graduate students;

  • Experience with programmatic service and/or leadership in an academic setting.
