DEPARTMENT: Physics and Engineering


POSITION SUMMARY:


The Department of Physics and Engineering at Alma College invites applications for a full-time Instructor/Lecturer of Engineering or Physics beginning August 2024. This is a one-year faculty position.


TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:


The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to student-centered engineering and physics education in a liberal arts context. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory physics, a Digital Fabrication course that introduces CAD and engineering design, and possibly other coursework according to candidate expertise. Full-time teaching load is six courses per year.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


An earned Master's degree or (preferred) Ph.D. earned or ABD is required, in any field of Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field. (Candidates with a background in Computer or Electrical Engineering are especially encouraged to apply.) Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations is preferred.


DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING:


The successful applicant will work alongside two tenured faculty in Physics and Engineering, in active collaboration with faculty from the department of Math and Computer Science. We offer majors in Physics, Engineering Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, and hope to hire a tenure-track professor in Computer Engineering or a related field to start in August 2025. The College also offers majors in Computer Science and Mathematics.
