Job Description:




The English Department at Binghamton University invites applications for a Lecturer of Creative Writing (three-year renewable contract) who will serve as Associate Director of the Creative Writing program. This position will involve a 2-1 teaching load in addition to administrative duties. This position is 50% teaching and 50% administrative responsibilities with an understanding that an average of 20 hours per week will be committed to the Associate Directorship. Management and coordination of Binghamton University Center for Writer's vibrant Creative Writing program includes event planning and overseeing public readings, internal and external prize coordination, design of program posters and imaging, create and post weekly social media content, monitor public relations, organize and publish monthly newsletter, manage visiting author travel arrangements, order catering, write research reports, serve as liaison to undergraduate and graduate students, and manage the day-to-day activities of an active writing program, as well as help to envision and administer future programming and projects, under the supervision of the Director of Creative Writing.

Requirements:




We seek a creative writer whose main genre of practice is poetry with a preference for a secondary practice in non-fiction, or hybrid poetry and prose writing. We seek an accomplished educator and community organizer to help us lead a dynamic program into an exciting phase of development. An MFA or PhD is strongly preferred, but not required. In addition to a strong publication record and a strong ability to teach Binghamton University creative writing courses, the candidate should have extensive administrative experience. In helping to administer the Creative Writing program within the English department, the successful applicant will show evidence of calm and readiness to be present for all events, an ease in problem solving and team building, diplomacy and skill in handling program logistics, strength in multi-tasking, a positive outlook in ever-changing situations, and creativity in shaping an historically distinguished writing program.
