Product Designer will be a self-starter with a strong record of meeting project deadlines and ability to successfully work with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. Responsible for the design, development, and integration of various components and subsystems for military combat vehicles. Design responsibility will range from single components to full vehicle assemblies requiring large assembly management. Areas of design competency should include but not limited to mechanical and/or electrical design feasibility concepts, initial packaging studies, design of complete prototypes, production design, system integration, and balance of systems based on known requirements. A solid understanding of various design based CAD process, design methods, prototype manufacturing, and production level manufacturing techniques.
Responsibilities:
Manage designs using CAD software per project requirements/specifications.
Creation of 3D components (parts and assemblies)
Creation of 2D drawings (single components, system installations and top level exploded drawings)
Create, manage, and communicate BOM structure/requirements in a collaborative fashion with project team members
Develop foundation of CAD data management knowledge including Revision History, Engineering Change Requests, and Configuration Management etc.
Troubleshoot design issues concerning manufacturing, quality, and system requirements on existing designs.
Willing and open participant for process improvement in all aspects of design responsibilities (CAD fundamentals, CAD data management, Design/Engineering, etc.)
Working knowledge and application of ASME 2D drawing type standards
Working knowledge and application of industry standard GD&T practices
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and properly prioritize based on project scope/timing
Reverse engineering and design capabilities including dimensional stack-ups defining fit and function.
Knowledge of standard components (fasteners, springs, pins, etc.)
Support and adhere to all company safety and environmental regulations and policies.
Support concurrent engineering, procurement and prototype build/integration activities by providing technical assistance.
Efficient use and knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite
General understanding of 3D top down design (use of skeletons) methods
Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis simulation (FEA)
General understanding of how technical user manuals and technical illustrations are utilized in within the Department of Defense (DoD) environment
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of Systems based design and related Standards/Processes
Familiarity with the US DoD ground vehicle requirements
Knowledge of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and acquisition
Familiarity with the US Army TACOM / TARDEC organizations
Practical 'hands on' attitude with the ability to operate independently
Currently holds or has the ability to obtain SECRET US Defense clearance
Knowledge of Military Standards and regulations
3D printing and general knowledge of material properties (e.g. Steel, Aluminum, Ceramic).
Must be able to communicate effectively in a variety of settings and be able to assimilate complex instructions easily.
Associate Degree in Product Design (e.g. Mechanical, Structural, Systems, Aerospace, Automotive); or equivalent in related field
Experience Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in product design and development US Defense programs
5+ years of experience or equivalent work experience with PTC Creo Parametric desired.
Proficient use of other MCAD tools will also be considered. (i.e. UG NX, Solid Works, CATIA)
Experience of working in a multi-national, multi-organizational and corporate environment.
Experience with engineering and supply chain management in a highly regulated industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
BSc Engineering desired (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Management) or equivalent work experience
