Yazaki is currently seeking a Supervisor, High Voltage Electronics to join our Electronics Instrumentation team in Canton, MI. In this role, with general management direction, and through participation as a member of the YNA EI leadership staff, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and leading an electronics design team The focus will be on the design and development of world class Automotive High Voltage Electronics / Power Distribution Modules.
What you will be doing:
Support electronic module architecture development for new and/or significantly modified circuits
Support the identification/development of new technologies in High Voltage products to ensure Yazaki remains at the forefront of innovation and competitiveness
Use technical knowledge and experience in evaluating customer requests for quote (RFQs) relative to high voltage system componentry such as OBCs, DC-DC converters, Junction Boxes, Battery Distribution Units, etc.
Synchronize with the RFQ team to support technical proposals for new High Voltage product business opportunities
Lead in technical discussions with customers to clarify unclear product requirements, finding the best trade-off solutions at system level to satisfy customer expectations.
Lead in Problem Management Process to ensure product defects are analyzed, root cause found, and that adequate proposed corrective actions are defined cross-functionally
Lead the electronic team to design both, high level and detailed schematics to support customers design requirements on high voltage system componentry for hybrid and/or electric vehicle technologies
Assume electrical engineering responsibility for all product development phases, including quoting, breadboards, prototypes, testing, validation and release to production
Provide innovative ideas for improving product performance, manufacturability and cost
Support hardware bring-up and integration and support power conversion systems hardware / software integration
Support the development of complete documentation, product verification and part's list
Support the creation and updating of DFMEAs and DVPRs
Prepare / Check all design documentation for release
Support the implementation of Functional Safety (ISO26262) Design Requirements for Production intended products
Provide sustaining engineering on existing products supporting manufacturing and test departments
Support testing prototype / production high voltage modules in the lab and in vehicles
Lead the support to the Test Center in the investigation of module related issues surfacing during product validation
Lead design reviews: System design, Schematic, PCB, component selection, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), EMC, thermal, etc.
Lead improvements of departmental technical capabilities, processes, and work instructions
Lead the electrical teams' continuous improvement efforts in design cost reductions, improve quality and customer satisfaction
Lead or support the interface with customer and other internal groups such as electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, mechanical engineering, MCAD, test engineering, product validation, manufacturing, purchasing, program management, project management, etc.
Lead the support of manufacturing prototype builds, trial builds and product launches
Lead or participate in component supplier and production line audits
Follow processes, procedures, and standards of Quality System in all work activities
What you will bring to the table:
Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in design of High Voltage automotive products or similar
8+ years of experience in design of High Voltage automotive products or similar
2+ years of experience Supervising a team of electronic engineers
Know-how of Electric vehicle architectures (400V/800V)
Demonstrated capability in leading a group of Electronic Design Engineers in the design and development of a High Voltage automotive electronic projects from concept through production
Solid understanding of automotive specifications
Extensive experience in Hardware / Software Interface requirements
Extensive experience with troubleshooting and solving problems related to EMC compliance & Thermal management
Good knowledge of the Electrical Design Process as it relates to ISO26262 (Functional Safety)
Expert knowledge of the automotive design cycle
Extensive experience in customer interface
Demonstrated ability in mentoring other engineers
Strong interpersonal, technical, organizational, presentational, and motivational skills
Excellent organization skills with the ability to operate with a minimum of supervision
Extensive experience in the manufacturing process for mass production electronics
Expert understanding of creating and reviewing product cost models
Hands-on experience with test & measurement equipment
Knowledge of electromechanical systems
Fluent spoken and written English
Organized and quality-oriented person with good oral and written communication skills
Able to maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality as well as to fully comply with YNA policies
Preferred:
15+ years of experience in High Voltage automotive electronics for automotive mass production or related industries
4+ years of experience Leading a team of electronic engineers
IEEE member actively involved in High Voltage standards
