Summary of Responsibilities:

The VP will be part of the team responsible for the origination, structuring, and execution of secured as well as unsecured Real Estate Finance transactions for BBVA's U.S. client base, including REITs, developers, financial sponsors, and asset managers. Analysis of trends and market conditions in the Real Estate Finance markets across the U.S. and preparation of internal and external market updates. Assist in the preparation of marketing material and proposals for existing and prospective clients. Manage the deal analysis and approval process of loan requests and renewals, including the underwriting process, loan booking, and loan monitoring.

List Major/Essential Job Duties:
  • Credit Underwriting, Due Diligence, and Financial Analysis of real estate finance opportunities in a variety of asset classes
  • Preparation of marketing materials for client pitches and idea generation
  • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for the expansion of the commercial real estate loan portfolio.
  • Managing the diligence process from a technical and legal standpoint and the structuring process through deal closing
  • Manage the credit approval process, presenting comprehensive credit proposals to relevant stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, economic trends, and competitive landscape to make informed decisions.
  • Work closely with the group head to develop and execute business strategies aligned with overall bank objectives.
  • Portfolio management and information reporting on in-process transactions and closed deals, including interaction with finance on fee recognition

Level of Complexity and Risk Involved:

Moderately complex responsibilities, with a critical component being the coordination and interaction with other client and product groups within the bank, including support areas (Risk, Legal, Compliance, etc). Strong understanding of underwriting and risk analysis of secured real estate transactions.

Scope of Duties:
  • Interaction with other teams within the BBVA Group, especially the risk and legal teams
  • Transaction underwriting, loan closing, and monitoring
  • Maintenance of internal reports and their distribution to the appropriate areas.
  • Oral and written presentations for client marketing and internal purposes.
  • Client meeting participation and follow-up
  • Preparation and monitoring of the loan closing process
  • Identification and use of research and tools
  • Participation in due diligence and legal meetings
  • Coordinate the workflow of the analyst(s) dedicated to the team

Skills, knowledge, and abilities/Competencies:
  • Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 7+ years of experience working in corporate and/or investment banking related to Real Estate Finance and/or experience in firms related to real estate finance, including experience in real estate credit analysis and transaction underwriting
  • Formal credit training a strong plus
  • Fluent in English a must, Spanish a strong plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and under tight deadlines
  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, financial modeling and DCF analysis
  • Proficient in ALL Microsoft Office Tools
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint proficiency is necessary, Bloomberg a plus

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $180,000 to $220,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
