Summary:
In conjunction with the Program Director, the APD will oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education; participate in the evaluation of residents and faculty; monitor resident supervision; and support and implement policies and procedures assisting in the establishment, monitoring and evaluation of the clinical care delivered within the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Riverside Medical Center. In conjunction with the Program Director, the Director of Graduate Medical Education and Program Coordinators, the APD will ensure adequate processes are implemented to support the delivery of a high quality comprehensive education to our residents. The APD reports to the Program Director and the Designated Institutional Official.
Qualifications:
The APD must meet the following qualifications:
Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the AOA or ABIM and may be subspecialty trained and board certified
Experienced in teaching residents in preparation for practice or fellowship
Ability to create formal customized Learning Plans with specific assignments for trainee improvement and to monitor resident compliance and measured improvement
Ability to deliver constructive criticism and hold residents accountable for their performance and professionalism and engage residents in remediation, if appropriate
Willingness to devote sufficient time to these endeavors
Recent history of scholarly activities/research
Recent PD or Associate PD experience preferred
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
Recent history of scholarly activities/research
Exposure/Sensory Requirements
Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Program Director and the Director of Graduate Medical Education in accomplishing their goals and objectives for the program
2. Provide leadership that will enable the institution to maintain compliance with ACGME institutional and program specific requirements to maintain continued accreditation
3. Assist in the development and implementation of policies governing resident activities and the program
4. Monitor compliance with core curriculum
5. Ensure residents receive teaching during rounds
6. Assist in monitoring skills assessment systems
7. Provide structured feedback to residents
8. Assist in the recruitment of additional faculty
9. Assist with the creation and monitoring of learning plans
10. Participate in resident and faculty scholarly activity
11. Assist in ensuring residents comply with program requirements
12. Participate in the interview process of candidates
13. Comply with the Institution and Program written policies and procedures
