Job Summary:
The Student Services Coordinator, akin to a school counselor, is tasked with guiding and supporting students in developing career pathways, whether vocational or professional. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of K-12 programs, curriculum, special programs, intervention processes, mentorship, and literacy proficiency, as well as vocational training and technical programs.
Essential Functions:
Provide care and services to students, ensuring they understand and develop various career pathways.Serve as a liaison among parents, teachers, and students for vocational training and educational systems.Participate in and promote events like career/job fairs, district-wide events, Native Youth Olympics, STEM projects, and ANSEP projects.Develop systemic programs to assist students in acquiring social skills, life skills, independent living skills, literacy skills, employability skills, and other essential skills for a seamless transition into adulthood.Assist students and families through appropriate referrals to manage personal issues/crises, school-related problems, home and family concerns, and more, including attending IEP meetings when applicable.Collaborate with educational and vocational stakeholders to ensure student success.Ensure compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as Tribal policies and TERO ordinance.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Physical Demands: Light work involving up to 20 pounds of force frequently.Hazards: Standard educational and office environment without significant exposure to adverse conditions.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for education.Experience: At least three years of experience in school and community-based programs, with knowledge of public education regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with cultural diversities.
License/Certification:
Valid Alaska State drivers license.Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
Special Skills:
Strong organizational skills and ability to present information effectively.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Excellent interpersonal skills, with a service-oriented approach to dealing with students, visitors, co-workers, and others.
Travel Required:
Local.
Equipment and Tools Used:
Standard office equipment including computers, phones, fax machines, and other office tools.
