Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs a variety of specimen processing, testing, and clerical tasks to support the laboratory services at the Denaina Wellness Center (DWC) and the Kenaitze Indian Tribe (KIT).
Essential Functions:
Provides clerical support for laboratory staff including processing incoming and outgoing lab reports, maintaining files, and compiling end-of-month statistical reports.Performs patient specimen testing, evaluates specimen suitability, and notifies supervisor of issues according to established policies.Processes specimens for testing and documentation in the lab information system or Electronic Health Record (EHR).Demonstrates proficiency in phlebotomy across various age groups.Performs clinical laboratory tests under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Lead Technician.Responsible for scheduled maintenance on laboratory instruments and quality control measures.
Qualifications:
Education: Associates degree in Medical Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.Experience: Minimum one year in a clinical laboratory setting.Certifications: Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP), AAB, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) or equivalent, or eligible for certification within three months of hire.License: Valid Alaska State drivers license or agreement on alternative arrangements.Special Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Laboratory Information Systems, understanding of HIPAA and other regulations, ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Physical and Working Conditions:
Medium work level with exposure to laboratory hazards such as chemicals and fumes.Involves local travel and use of a personal vehicle.
OSHA Categories:
Category I Duties routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
