Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Intake Specialist is the primary contact for intakes, providing initial support and information to individuals inquiring about Behavioral Health programs and services. This role ensures a timely and professional response to clients, conducts thorough intake processes, and meets quality standards for CARF and State certification.
Essential Functions:

Receive and process all referrals to the program and psychiatric services.
Maintain accurate wait-lists and manage quarterly reporting.
Provide program orientation to clients using all required forms, ensuring quality of care in accordance with CARF standards.
Complete the Alaska Screening Tool (AST) with new clients.
Verify third-party insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare, prior to and post-enrollment.
Manage the admission, enrollment, and discharge processes in the electronic health record and AKAIMS.
Enter data for all encounters in AKAIMS to maintain a 0% error rate.
Provide supportive services to clients, including follow-up calls, appointment scheduling, and medication coordination.
Offer clerical support to behavioral health providers, manage documentation, and handle communications.
Assist Psychiatrists as assigned and coordinate monthly integrated provider meetings.
Submit Service Authorization Requests for Medicaid clients and maintain documentation of intake services and required statistical data.
Generate and submit timely monthly reports of services and activities.

Qualifications:

Education: ANTHC (BHA) Program certification or Bachelor's degree in a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
Experience: Three years in a healthcare setting, preferably in Community Behavioral Health; knowledge of intake processes and client confidentiality laws.
License/Certification: Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy.
Preferred: Experience working with cultural diversities.

Special Skills:

Typing speed of 60 WPM with less than 10% error rate (typing test required).
Exceptional customer service skills and proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Service-oriented approach to interacting with clients and colleagues.

Working Conditions:

Lifting Requirements: Sedentary work - involves sitting most of the time.
Physical Requirements: Capable of stationary work, occasional lifting, handling documents and office equipment, and navigating office spaces.
OSHA Categories: Category II - No routine exposure to blood or body fluids, but potential exposure may occur.

Equipment and Tools:

Utilizes a computer, phone, fax machine, photocopier, and scanner.

Travel:

Local and in-state travel required.
