Actuarial Assistant (Hybrid)


Primary Duties & Responsibilities


The Actuarial Department is responsible for supporting and enhancing sustainable growth of both sales and profits while managing the risks and safeguarding the solvency of Globe Life. Actuaries are involved in life and health insurance product design, development, pricing and implementation, and are instrumental in the ongoing financial
management of the enterprise.

This position will be a member of the Management Insights and Enablement Team within the Globe Life Actuarial Department. They will be integral in transitioning existing processes from SQL Server and Excel to cloud technologies, including Redshift, Aurora, Lambda, IICS, and more. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong data processing and analytical skills complemented with a positive and collaborative attitude to facilitate a smooth evolution.

• Redesign, transition, and update complex actuarial processes.
• Transfer, manipulate, and organize large amounts of data to enable analysis.
• Investigate cutting edge tools and technology to improve department capabilities.
• Collaborate with other actuarial teams to foster engagement for cloud transition.
• Modernize and streamline existing processes and data to enhance efficiency.
• Assist other team members within the department with various ad hoc projects.



Required Skills
• Robust analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with attention to details.
• Database and SQL knowledge.
• Exposure to programming languages, preferably Python, R, and/or VB.
• Working knowledge of Excel and Tableau.
• Versatile, self-motivated learner with ability to pick up new skills necessary to get the job done.
• Strong work ethic with good time management to meet timelines and requirements.
• Adaptable to a dynamic environment and changing priorities.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Required Knowledge & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field required
• Insurance industry experience is a plus.
• Track record of success on actuarial exams with two completed Society of Actuaries exams preferred
• Working experience with any or all the following is a plus:

o AWS Services (such as S3, Workspaces, Lambda, DMS, Glue, and Athena)
o Columnar and relational databases (like Redshift, SQL Server, or Aurora)
o Programming Languages (like Python, R, or VB)
o Data visualization and reporting tools (like Tableau)
o ETL tools (like SSIS, or Informatica)
