Ensight has a growing automation group within our equipment division to support our customers biggest challenges of labor shortages. The Mechanical Engineer is a critical stakeholder, working directly with the Customer, Sales, Purchasing, Controls Engineers, and Operations, in designing custom and standard equipment lines which solve complex challenges for customers. This is a pivotal role in our equipment design process. A priority will be to research, analyze, and design innovative opportunities to automate food processing and packaging tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Mechanical Design capability and working knowledge in 3D and 2D modeling.
Develop Bills of Material (BOMs), customer drawings, manufacturing drawings, and other related engineering documents to company standards
Create proprietary automation solutions
Design mechanical solutions for a range of simple through complex tasks
Work with limited resources to develop and test prototype designs and initial concepts to validate design decisions.
Evaluate and troubleshoot equipment to ensure that it is safe, reliable, and meets customer requirements
Perform calculations required for equipment verification and component / system sizing / safety standards, including loading, pneumatics and hydraulics, motors, robots, and other required components
Work collaboratively within project teams consisting of clients, electrical engineers, design engineers, controls engineers, purchasing, sales, production team members, and project managers to deliver quality solutions
Perform FEA analysis to ensure system structures and framing meet required specifications of strength and rigidity
May be asked to perform other duties as needed
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
2 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering and Design (minimum)
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
Machinery, system, or mechanical design experience
Autodesk Inventor and Nastran, Solidworks, or other 3D engineering modeling software and FEA equivalent
Read and Create 3D modeling and 2D fabrication drawings
Preferred Qualifications
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
Experience designing with stainless steel and sheet metal
Hygienic design standards
Experience in design of material handling equipment or products
2 years of experience utilizing FEA simulation tools
Utilization of a PDM software
Hands on machinery troubleshooting or assembly
Research and Development project experience

Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, or comparable - Proficient Level
Autodesk Nastran, Solidworks Simulation, or comparable (preferred) - Proficient Level
Microsoft Office - Proficient level

Other Skills
Mechanical aptitude and communication skills to explain processes and designs to non-technical team members.

Travel
Travel may be required to visit customer locations (less than 5%)
