Overview



Schedule Information:
Per course schedule; maintains a minimum of 15 contact hours of teaching, with release time for program coordination, and 6 office hours per week for student consultation; evening and weekend instruction may be required. Serves on college committees; participates in departmental and division initiatives.




Weeks per fiscal year:
Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May) - this position may require an additional commitment in the Summer from May thru August. Additional compensation will be awarded for this time period.

Position Description and Duties:
Harper College is one of the nation's premier community colleges and one of the largest, serving approximately 30,000 students annually in Chicago's northwest suburbs. The Harper College Cannabis Science and Therapeutics program invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to provide instruction in and coordination of the Cannabis Science and Therapeutics program. The successful candidate will ensure we are covering theoretical and practical applications of the Cannabis Science and Therapeutics, while also focusing on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our students' educational experience.


Other departmental responsibilities may include promoting programs and assisting with program outreach and recruitment. The successful candidate will provide the program with direction and identify program growth opportunities. Candidates should possess expertise in cannabis science and therapeutics. The position involves assisting in curricula development, teaching the theory and practice of cannabis science, including cannabis science, law and ethics, dispensary operations, cannabis therapeutics, client communication, and cannabis pharmacology. The successful candidate should also be able to guide students through experiential learning and further develop our internship program. You must have extensive knowledge of the subject matter and relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline. You must also be able to create an effective learning environment that promotes and enhances the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities of our students.


The successful candidate will participate in and contribute to program, divisional and institutional committees, assignments, and activities.




Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree preferred, Associate's Degree considered.




Experience Requirements:
Minimum 1 year of cannabis industry experience. Teaching experience preferred.
