The founding patriarch, Herman J. Russell (Dec 1930 - Nov 2014) was a hard-working, driven, spirited, visionary entrepreneur, and his three adult children (G2) - continuing in his footsteps - have built a collaborative and effective sibling partnership that will leverage the family business platform and provide a pathway that enhances the surrounding community through positive social and economic impact.

Opportunity

As the leader of H. J. Russell's human capital and employee experience initiatives, the Chief People Officer (CPO) serves as a key business advisor to the Russell Executive leadership team.

The CPO is responsible for developing and executing the human resource strategy in support of the business plan and strategic direction of the organization(s), specifically in the areas of talent acquisition, performance management, career succession, leadership development, and compensation & benefit strategy through the strategic oversight of Russell's Human Resources.

The CPO will have primary responsibility for the collaborative development, implementation, oversight, & assessment of all personnel-related initiatives of the respective Russell companies (H. J. Russell & Company, Concessions International & H. J. Russell Enterprises).

The CPO will serve as the chief steward and advocate of the most effective human capital strategies and resources, collaborating with all sister company HR leaders on opportunities to ensure alignment and efficiency throughout the enterprise.

Additional responsibilities include organizational culture and core value initiatives related to performance management including diversity (DE&I), people and succession strategies, and compliance with both internal policies and external regulations.

The CPO must have exceptional leadership abilities, innovative and collaborative problem-solving skills, superior organizational skills, and the capability to create and maintain effective relationships with all levels of personnel.

Additionally, this individual directly supervises the work of the Human Resource Department heads of the Russell sister companies and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with each organization's policies and applicable laws.

Skills and Experience:

* Degree in organizational development, human resources, diversity and inclusion, organizational psychology, or other HR associated degree is required. Master's degree or SHRM-SCP credential preferred.

* A minimum of 12 years of relevant human resources experience and a minimum of 7 of these years in a leadership role.

* Thorough knowledge of human resource principles and employment related federal/state/local regulations, wage and hour law including Davis-Bacon and Certified Payroll.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Superior interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

* Detail and goal oriented, with strong analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills, including an ability to interact with internal and external partners.

* Knowledgeable, competent, and decisive leader who possesses a strategic focus as well as an operational, implementation and detail-oriented perspective dedicated to meeting aggressive deadlines.

* Innovative HR practitioner, who uses their deep knowledge of human resources best practices to bring thought-leadership, creativity, and innovative thinking into the operations.

* Demonstrated success in employee relations, labor relations, coaching and counseling, performance management, recruitment, employee involvement, team building.

* Experience in implementing and administering performance programs and coaching teams to put strong emphasis on performance metrics.

* Strong knowledge and experience with compensation, benefits, and all payroll functions.

* Excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties.

* Exhibit extraordinary discretion and flexibility; and must have the demonstrated experience to work collaboratively and effectively with the Executive Leadership team.

* An energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards.

* Experience with parent company and subsidiary interaction desired, as well as experience with a privately held and/or family owned or operated business.

* Concessions and construction operational experience a plus.

* Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) experience preferred.

The CPO is expected to help facilitate strong working relationships between managers and their teams, which ultimately helps increase productivity.

* Must have an ability to develop a deep comprehension as to how the organization operates, where it fits into its' markets, and how each internal department interacts with one another. The CPO will also need a solid grasp of business trends, industry standards, and relevant regulations. The successful CPO candidate will be able to connect these factors to make informed employee growth and development decisions. A strong business acumen will help the successful candidate make informed recommendations based on accurate findings.

* The ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, legal documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations is required. Additionally, the CPO must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, financial statements' footnote disclosures and procedure manuals. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public in a tactful, professional, and team-oriented manner is also required.

* Must be self-confident, knowledgeable, and able to exercise sound judgment in conducting research, analysis and decision making. A confident, self-directed problem solver with the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

* Must consistently operate in a transparent and collaborative manner with a "team first" approach.

* Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

* Must be proactive, have a strong sense of urgency, and be comfortable with change.

* Must have integrity and be approachable, respectful and instill confidence and trust in his/her ability to handle complex and sensitive financial and personal information both internally and externally.

* Most importantly, this individual must be able to understand, appreciate and support the mission-based initiatives of the family.
