KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for a variety of tasks including collecting patient information, issuing medical files, uploading medical files and processing patient paperwork.
Additionally, theMedical Records Specialist will:
Maintain medical records to assure confidentiality of patient information.
Issue medical files to persons and agencies according to laws and regulations.
Assists with departmental audits and investigations.
Uploads signed orders, notice of Medicare non coverage forms, SOC paperwork and all other paperwork that is to be uploaded into the EMR.
Log in and out physician orders and mail orders to the appropriate physicians.
Develop and implement systems to assure organization and timely retrieval of documentation which includes monitoring past due visits and tracking of SOC paperwork and POA signature for consent.
Faxes and logs discharge summaries and uploads confirmation.
Monitor all open OASIS reports and obtain past due visits submitted for discharge.
Maintain all discharged patient charts.
Tracks and uploads orders and signed orders (including encounters and F2F documentation)
Process medical supply orders for patients, facilities, branches and nurse trunk supplies.
Print and sort ADR's for Home Health for Humana, SCIO and give to the Compliance Manager for final approval.
Checks the EOE's, RAP at RISK and prioritize for pending orders for billing.
Mails nursing bags and medical supplies to all Home Health staff.
Always maintains patient confidentiality, including all HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
Industry experience
Two years home care, hospice, medical records experience preferred.
Microsoft computer skill set required, experience with The Care Team's software and applications preferred.
Must be computer literate and ability to maintain simple records in English.
Excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
Must possess light secretarial skill and have a polite telephone manner.
In depth knowledge of medical terminology, processes, and administrative duties.
Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent, Associates degree preferred.
