BFT - Laboratory Assistant for Molecular Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH) in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:


Under close supervision and following established and detailed procedures, washes and sterilizes glassware, instruments, and laboratory area. Regularly will pick up and deliver materials and supplies. May be asked to perform other lab related duties, as necessary.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Following established procedures:

• Prepares washes and dries glassware.


• Decontaminates/sterilizes glassware and other apparatuses by autoclaving.


• Cleans certain glassware by soaking in detergent concentrate or acid solution, or by placing in an ultrasound machine.


• Sorts and arranges glassware by capacity. Verifies quantities and distributes to laboratory personnel.


• Ensures the cleanliness of washing machines, ovens, autoclaves and ultrasound machines and work area.


• Cleans and Maintains laboratory, disposing of trash, lab chemicals and specimens.


• Takes inventory and monitors supplies of products to perform duties.


• Uses and maintains appropriate machinery, tools, materials and instruments.


• Prepares basic solutions.

Qualifications

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• Careful attention to detail.


• Good organizational skills.


• Ability to follow directions.


• Good communication skills.


• Good computer skills, including (but not limited to) email and data entry.

EDUCATION:


HS diploma required.


EXPERIENCE:


1 year of lab experience desirable.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


• Duties will be performed in a research laboratory.


• Work will be conducted part-time, but may extend to a forty-hour work week.


• Calls for moving and lifting up to 30 lbs multiple times per day.
