Position Summary
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Plant Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of aggregate plant processing equipment. As a plant maintenance mechanic you may perform various roles, including fabrication, welding, cutting, greasing, housekeeping and various other shop or processing duties. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic should possess the skills and knowledge to take a leading role in improving plant efficiency and productivity.
Job Responsibilities
Prioritizes SAFETY, then QUALITY, followed by Production
Will take an active role in the plant safety initiatives
Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times
Has a working knowledge of MSHA and safety rules and regulations. Inspect equipment in assigned area daily to ensure safety standards have been met. Repair all safety problems in a timely manner in accordance with plant and company policy
Maximizes performance of stationary equipment by performing repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis
Performs fabrication, erection of processing equipment and repair to processing equipment
Responsible for ensuring backlog process is completed and prioritized with Plant Manager.
Completes required paperwork to maintain equipment and to run the plant according to Martin Marietta Materials standards
Duties may include checking, repairing or replacing pumps.
Inspects and ensures maintenance truck is being maintained properly
Ensures Preventative Maintenance services, lubrications services are completed according to Maintenance Module
Work closely with Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor regarding major equipment problems
Maintains accurate maintenance lists that thoroughly addresses maintenance needs in assigned area
Actively participate in scheduling plant shutdowns, including analysis of needs, length of time to complete the project, and labor requirements
Assist in other areas of the plant as needed
Ability to learn to perform other job functions, including fill in when needed
Fabricate special tools as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to weld and have strong maintenance-mechanical aptitude
Two years experience as Maintenance Mechanic preferred
Must have superior knowledge of crushing, screening, material handling equipment and all related major systems in order to troubleshoot or anticipate system problems.
Knowledge and appreciation for production goals and effect of repair costs upon the success of the operation
Teamwork oriented who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Ability to communicate effectively - written and verbal
Knowledge of all related safety regulations
Be able to work in very stressful conditions
Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
Adequate vision and hand-eye coordination to make precise adjustments and repairs to equipment
Ability to walk through plants, sometimes on uneven terrain
Ability to squat, bend, twist, and stoop, frequently lifting heavy objects up to 75 lbs
Ability to climb ladders and catwalks up to 100 foot from ground level.
Be able to perform duties in a safe manner
Read, understand, and follow instructions presented in service manuals and blue prints
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work irregular and extended shifts in excess of 10 hours
Adequate vision and hand-eye coordination to make precise adjustments and repairs to equipment
Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 100 feet and work at this level for extended periods
Must be able to work in confined spaces
Must be able to operate motor vehicle and equipment
Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach around all areas of plant equipment
Will be required to lift up to 75 lbs., as needed
Must be able to walk across steep/rough terrain up to 200 yards
Ability to use hand tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, etc
This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hearing protection
Working Conditions
Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs
Will work in varied environments (in all weather conditions heat, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions)
Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, shale, and other raw materials and various chemicals, solvents and lubricants
