The Data Engineer II designs, builds and oversees deployment and operation of technology architecture, solutions and software to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. They establish and build structures based on business and technical requirements to channel data from multiple inputs, route appropriately and store using any combination of distributed (cloud) structures, local databases and other storage forms. This position also develops tools and programming to leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data techniques to cleanse, organize and transform data. The Data Engineer II also creates and establishes design standards and assurance processes for software, systems and applications.

What you will do to contribute to the company's success
Designs and develops moderately complex queries, objects, ETL packages, reporting structures, and other objects necessary to support detailed analysis and self-service reporting needs.
Collaborates with analytics and business teams to create and improve data models that feed BI tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.
Monitors the health, reliability and security of the BI data ecosystem and troubleshoots escalated data related failures and reporting inconsistencies to ensure that data presented is reliable, correct, highly available, and straightforward.
Works closely with other BI team members to create dashboards, scorecards, reports, and other executive-facing products.
Assists with the development and delivery of data solutions, including data pipelines, API integration, and other structures and processes to support the data platform
Identifies, designs, and implements internal process improvements, including the automation of manual processes, optimization of data delivery, and refactoring of code for improved performance
Builds pipelines to enable the optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources
Provides strategic assistance to BI leadership and the BI team by making recommendations in the areas of report design, data management, and best practices
Collaborates with developers, database administrators, data architects, and others on reporting and data management projects as needed
Takes on other duties needed to help drive our Purpose, fulfill our Brand Principles, and abide by our Organization's Values
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of equivalent experience can substitute for education.
Demonstrated programming experience with SQL (T-SQL preferred)
Proven demonstration of exemplary ability to complete the functions of a Data Engineer I or similar position
Professional experience working in cloud data ecosystems, preferably Azure
Experience with Power BI dashboard, visualization, and report development
Data warehouse experience, including tabular and multi-dimensional modeling
ETL, Extract-Load-Transform (ELT), and/or data pipeline development experience
Experience as a database administrator (DBA) is a plus
Experience with Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines, etc.).
Experience with migrating data from on-premise to cloud
Experience working in an Agile / Scrum work environment
Skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Azure data related services such as Data Lake, Data Factory, Synapse, Purview, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Power BI Premium
Knowledge of data governance, data quality analysis and/or master data management
Domain knowledge of broadband or telecommunications industry
Proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and/or Azure Data Studio
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visual Studio
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
Strong organizational and multitasking skills with ability to balance competing priorities
Intermediate understanding of database management systems (DBMS) such as Microsoft SQL Server
Strong Microsoft Business Intelligence (MSBI) skills (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS)
Ability to work, focus, and be productive in a virtual, remote, and on-premise environment
Intermediate knowledge of BI best practices and recommendations for an advanced analytics data ecosystem, including data visualization, data analysis, data integration, and data modeling
Familiarity with programming languages such as C#, Python, Java, R, or similar
Ability to read and write basic PowerShell scripts and commands
Understanding of big data technologies
Ability to solve complex problems using a sequential system
Ability to assess circumstances using experience and a variety of information gathered
