Custodian - Temporary Floater


Reports to: Custodial Manager

Days/Work Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 4:00pm to 12:00am shift
(with a 30-minute paid lunch).

Days off: Sunday & Monday

Pay rate: $30.27 per hour (Plus 4% differential)



PRIMARY FUNCTION(S):


  • Act as a custodial floater across the Wellesley College campus to be responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of building areas. Please note that the building assignments may change on a daily basis due to the department's coverage needs. Work under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor and Lead Custodian or Assistant Lead Custodian.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open and secure buildings as needed.

  • Remove daily trash - wash containers on a regular schedule.

  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks for recycling and events.

  • Requisition and receive supplies.

  • Vacuum hallways and common areas.

  • Clean bathrooms, kitchenettes, scrub showers, tubs, mirrors and toilets.

  • Wash inside windows and glass partitions.

  • Ability to use power equipment and floor machines.

  • Carpet cleaning.

  • Knowledge of floor care (stripping and refinish work).

  • Use chemicals properly.

  • Set up for college events, replace light bulbs, call in maintenance repairs, and emergencies.

  • Snow shoveling.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • Be well organized and adaptable to change.

  • Must work pleasantly with students and staff, with high regards to customer service.

  • Position also requires a significant amount of walking and standing.

  • Excellent communication skills are required, including both verbal and written presentational skills as well as good leadership qualities. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and understand the importance of customer service.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Experience:

  • Must have High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Valid driving license required.

  • Operate assigned equipment and vehicle.

  • Minimum (3) three years of experience as a custodian in a higher education setting.

  • Minimum (1) one year of experience preferred as a Combined Building Custodian.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Able to withstand long period of walking, standing, twisting and lifting.
