Job Description:

The Instructional Lab Manager will be responsible for managing the operational, instructional, and administrative activities in teaching laboratories in the areas described below in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department and the Mechanical Engineering (ME) department.


This position reports to the Department Executive Officer (DEO) of the ECE department. The Lab Manager will work with departmental faculty and staff to place and receive orders for the teaching labs, maintain and oversee equipment repair, and ensure the safety compliance of all individuals utilizing the departmental labs. The Lab Manager will supervise and monitor the Teaching Assistants (TAs) assigned to teach the lab sections. They will work closely with the faculty instructing the course(s) regarding laboratory sections' design, modification, and progress. This includes scheduling planning meetings with TAs, setting up laboratory materials and equipment for labs, training TAs, developing and testing new laboratory exercises, and revising laboratory activities.



Specific Job Duties and Tasks

  • Responsible for managing the operational, instructional, and administrative activities in departmental laboratory teaching programs, serving students,and coordinating teaching laboratory preparation.
  • Work with faculty to develop and implement simple electrical circuits (e.g., amplifying/filtering circuits, motion control, and data acquisition circuits).
  • Provide instruction in undergraduate laboratory courses. Supervise and evaluate TAs to ensure compliance with university/department laboratory safety standards.
  • Participate in university-sponsored events, conferences, or workshops for lab education and active learning initiatives.
  • Order supplies and maintain equipment necessary for teaching laboratories.
  • Create and maintain an inventory of lab materials and equipment.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all teaching-lab-related issues, including mediation and resolution of problems, as needed.
  • Work closely with faculty members, advisors, and other student service offices to address the individual needs of all students and facilitate student success.
  • Prepare and provide materials required for successful completion of labs.
  • Supervise students and teaching assistants while in the lab.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education (such as an associate degree) and experience.



Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively with supervisors, other staff, students, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented service and support work environment.
  • Must have flexibility in working hours; some evening and weekend work is required, but not often.



Desired Qualifications


  • Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW software experience.
