Job Title:Data Analytics Specialist - Department of Family and Community MedicineDepartment:Medicine | Family Medicine


The Data Analytics Specialist contributes data curation, management, and analysis expertise to advance health services research within the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and will work closely with the Center for the Advancement of Team Science, Analytics, and Systems Thinking in Health Services and Implementation Science Research (CATALYST). The Data Analytics Specialist will work on a variety of research projects to inform emerging questions in health services research including describing social needs referral and resolution patterns, testing hypotheses related to service quality of minoritized populations (e.g., racial/ ethic disparities; LGBTQ+ care; refugee health), or other emergent issues in primary care (e.g., suicide prevention; chronic care and value-based payment efficacy; substance use disorder)



Primary responsibilities will include data curation, management, and analysis tasks using inputs from a variety of different datasets (e.g., Electronic Health Record data, surveys, published research, claims, national samples). The candidate will assist and lead efforts to build data extractions from the Information Warehouse, develop registries, and design RedCAP data collection instruments. The candidate will independently merge data from across sources, conduct quality control, and model testing using data from multiple sources, communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical project team members, and continually maintains and improves upon data reliability, efficiency and quality. The candidate will engage in discovery of tasks that can be automated for efficiency, and work with senior staff to identify and implement solutions. They will work autonomously but with guidance from senior research staff, assist with summarizing conclusions and solutions for presentation, contribute expertise in data visualization and description, assists with proposal writing, the preparation of reports, and the development of manuscripts. We welcome candidates with various types of analytical sophistication (expertise in database building, econometrics, statistics, mathematical modeling, data mining, network analysis, computer science, data science, or data analytics) and seek individuals comfortable working outside of their expertise to learn new methods. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.





Minimum Education and Experience:


Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or relevant related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Masters degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science preferred.



Experience with: demonstrating data literacy and data-driven decision making; creating complex applications for data science models; development of discrete event simulation models; automating and scaling simulation model deployment on cloud infrastructure; architecting, implementing and stewarding end-to-end data infrastructure; demonstrating data visualization skills.



Basic software development skills on a data management and analytic software of the candidates choice (e.g., SAS, R, Python, SQL, Stata). Familiarity with RedCAP is a plus, as is version control systems such as Github.



Candidate has the ability to work in a collaborative team environment maintaining clear line of communication with senior project staff and researchers. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be required to complete a pre- employment physical, including a drug screen.
