MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN


Job Summary


Under a supervisor's direction, perform a wide variety of tasks to maintain Safety, Production, Facility, and all related equipment. Primary responsibilities are to minimize equipment downtime by using preventive and predictive maintenance methods and perform all tasks in a safe manner with quality as a major objective.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Tasks include, but are not limited to:


* Following safe practices and performing safety verifications/checklists.
* Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on all equipment.
* Perform scheduled work orders on all equipment.
* Troubleshoot and repair problems on all equipment.
* Creating, updating, and completing of work orders in the CMMS system.
* Logging of time and details of work completed in the CMMS system.
* Daily oral and written communications with shift-to-shift hand off.
* Daily completion of Standard Start tasks and communication with Production personnel.
* Troubleshoot, repair, and work with contracted services for vehicle, forklift, and other powered equipment problems.
* Troubleshoot, repair, and work with contracted services for HVAC, MAU, or chiller problems.
* Knowledge of Fire System including preventive maintenance, procedures, and policies.
* Perform roof repairs on an emergency, scheduled or preventive nature.
* Basic understanding of Compressor and Boiler operations.
* Assist other Technicians when possible and help cover their areas when they aren't available.


Complete requested training programs and training refresher programs.


Working Conditions:


Activities occur both inside and outside the manufacturing facilities, distribution warehouse, and grounds. Individuals could be exposed to 110+ degree weather in the summertime when working on the roof and sub-zero temperatures in the winter. There is also airborne mica dust, which can create an uncomfortable environment at times. Being a mechanic, the job conditions change on an hourly basis and adjustments must be made accordingly.


Time Worked:


Hours Worked - Core hours as shown below with additional as required to cover plant needs


* Weekday Shifts: Three shifts, rotating every 2 weeks. (10:30p-7:00a; 6:30a-3:00p; 2:30p-11:00p)


* Saturday and/or Sunday as required to cover plant needs
* Two Weekend Shifts (fixed): Saturday & Sunday (12 hrs) 11p-11a or 11a-11p, Friday (8 hrs) 6:30a-3p


Education and Experience:


* Two-year technical degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Electricity, Electronic Automation, or Control Systems Technology -- or -- three years of Industrial Electrical experience
* General Maintenance skills in pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, and machine shop practice
* Ability to pass all standardized basic skills and Maintenance-specific testing
* Strong communication (verbal & written) skills, ability to work in a Team environment.
* Willingness to participate in on-the-job and theoretical training program
* The ability to work a swing shift or weekend schedule


As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must agree to completion of the Vari-Skills 5-year program in a reasonable time frame. Credit for prior experience and education may be given toward the 5-year program.


Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:


Essential Full Performance Knowledge


* Required knowledge includes, but is not limited to:


* Knowledge of all safe working procedure JSA's applicable to a maintenance job in a manufacturing environment.
* Knowledge of and proper application of Lock Out/Tag Out and Permit Required Entry practices and forms.
* Knowledge of electrical safety and procedures.
* Knowledge of and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
* Knowledge of and proper use of Hot Work permits.
* Knowledge of basic welding and machining practices.
* Knowledge of basic hydraulics and pneumatics setups and operations.
* Basic knowledge of three phase electricity, control wiring, variable frequency drives, and programmable logic controllers.
* Knowledge of all aspects of mechanics and the proper procedures to apply successfully.


Essential Full Performance Skills


* Required skills include but are not limited to:
* Safety - ability to think Safety First, preform safety checks, complete LOTO, and understand safety standards/procedures.
* Listening/Reading - ability to listen to an individual or read a work order to determine a problem or corrective action.
* Print reading - ability to read all types of prints with a full understanding whether they are electrical, mechanical, etc.
* Writing - ability to fill out work orders properly, log time, and email other requested information.
* Troubleshooting - ability to look at problems in a safe and logical manner to identify possible solutions.
* Planning - ability to plan out requested work, order parts, and kit the materials for the scheduled jobs.
* Research - ability to identify new parts and vendors as needed to service, repair or modify equipment or components.
* Ideas - ability to identify improvement opportunities to all areas of the plant.


Physical Requirements


* Ability to stand, walk, lift/carry/push/pull, kneel, crawl, and climb ladders frequently to continuously depending on task
* Excellent vision, hearing, dexterity, and eye/hand coordination
* Ability to work in extreme temperatures
* Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, mobile equipment, etc.
* Ability to perform all tasks in a safe manner
