Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Quality Analyst in our Cary, NC location to join the Outdoor Team to perform verification and validation of next generation outdoor products, with a focus on scuba (Open Water Dive Certification strongly desired). In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership of quality assurance activities for complex features within Garmin consumer products and/or software in a team-oriented environment. You will have the opportunity to perform hands on scuba dive testing of new products in a real environment including local dive sites as well as possible travel to ocean sites when needed. You will work with beta testers and dive shops around the world to ensure our products provide the highest value to the most experienced divers. This is where quality assurance meets adventure.

Essential Functions


  • Lead investigation and development of new tools and methodologies to support the quality assurance initiatives and proactively identify areas for improvement related to quality assurance tools and methodologies

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Garmin product specifications, capabilities and operation related to the market segment being supported

  • Motivate and drive accountability to project teams and stakeholders in pursuit of successfully delivering quality goals

  • Design test plans, scenarios, scripts and/or procedures of significant complexity, in accordance with established Garmin test procedures - including analysis, review and tracing of requirements as necessary

  • Serve as the voice of the customer in product design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, resource needs, target release dates and/or potential problems

  • Demonstrate ability to conduct usability tests and communicate results to product owners

  • Identify customer expectations and track satisfaction indicators that indicate software/product effectiveness and provide actionable results to improve

  • Ensure that test scripts follow established standards, fully exercise targeted functionality, and are technically sound and executed properly in all phases of testing

  • Document defects in defect management system and report defects to developers

  • Collect and analyze test results and beta user feedback (when applicable), and recommend enhancements to, or provide gap analysis of, test methods used in order to enhance efficiency and test coverage

  • Deliver project status and summary information as needed to all levels of leadership

  • Investigate and verify issues reported to quality assurance for validity and reproducibility and provide leadership in defect analysis to create new test cases and methods to improve test coverage

  • Recommend new testing approaches to accommodate schedules and resource constraints

  • Verify software modifications in new software versions to prepare for implementation

  • Assist in test case maintenance as necessary to keep repository current

  • Train and mentor other quality assurance associates on all aspects of quality assurance

  • Provide leadership related to understanding and application of Garmin quality assurance processes and procedures and test process improvement activities

  • Participate and assist with the coordination of release deployments

  • Perform system analysis techniques and procedures to determine software functional specifications for Garmin products

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 9 years equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 2 years leadership experience within a product/software quality team

  • Bachelor's Degree OR a minimum of 4 years equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Relevant experience or training in product and/or software quality assurance processes and methodologies related to a Garmin core product market and in creating test plans and conducting usability tests for large projects

  • Must possess superior organizational/analytical skills, be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, can work independently with minimal supervision, and can exercise sound independent judgment

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)

  • Strong working knowledge of Garmin product line and customers

  • Relevant experience writing automated test scripts

  • Relevant experience or training in creating test plans, conducting usability test, and/or writing test scripts is preferred

  • Open Water Dive Certification
