Food Safety and Quality Manager

Job Summary

As a Food Safety and Quality Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of our food products. Your responsibilities will span across food safety programs, quality assurance, and regulatory adherence. You will provide technical direction, guidance, and support to the Quality Assurance supervisors, Food Safety Specialist, QA Coordinator, and staff of technicians at facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring we have controls and procedures in place to ensure the manufacture of safe, quality products that meet customer, and food regulatory requirements. This role has direct communication with customers including but not limited to; audits, product cuttings, complaints, new products, and specification changes. This position is the key contact for regulatory personnel for day-to-day business.

Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation:
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive food safety programs and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including HACCP, FSMA, and GMP standards.
  • Perform regular audits of facility operations (processing, packaging, storage) to identify risks and non-compliance issues.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Set quality standards for raw materials and finished products.
  • Maintain continuity of production and service quality.
  • Keep meticulous records of all tests conducted.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Interact with engineering, manufacturing, and service functions to establish quality assurance standards.
  • Represent quality assurance on enterprise-wide cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with R&D activities on-site through cross-functional ways of working.

Expertise and Awareness:
  • Stay up-to-date with food safety best practices, public health regulations, and industry standards.
  • Build expertise in food microbiology, USDA food laws, and regulations.

Quality Control System:
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain a robust quality assurance and quality control system.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of food safety and quality data to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.

Team Development:
  • Develop and coach Quality Assurance staff to ensure uniform interpretation and application of standards.
  • Provide proper coaching, training, and counseling.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Education, Chemistry, Microbiology, Engineering, Technical, Management, Business, Biology, or Technology.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as HACCP, SQF, GFSI, RM, FSSC22000, PCQI, FDA, FSQA, GMP, and FSMA are advantageous.

Skills
  • Proficiency in food safety, HACCP, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of food microbiology and USDA food laws.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
