We are seeking a full-time, remote IT Software Engineer I. The position is a “hands on” role requiring a broad range of technical skills as well as an aptitude and interest in coordinating work of others to resolve production issues and/or enhancement work. This position works with the necessary resources to resolve issues for application-related user problems and/or application development implemented solutions in the IT production support role. This position is also accountable for the analysis, resolution, or coordination of the resolution of reported production issues or enhancements/maintenance requests that are reported by our users or assigned by the IT Service Desk. Project management of small projects and system deployments will be done in conjunction with the primary roles of support and enhancements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply your skills to troubleshoot and resolve user issues.
  • Communicate effectively with end users, application development team, IT Operations staff, and management to explain technical processes, issues, and recommended solutions.
  • Maintain and support internet-based enterprise web applications.
  • Perform triage on reported production issues leveraging available tools and environment access including but not limited to SQL, file/log file interrogation, user setup, low-code solutions, and requirement/specification document.
  • Devise and recommend workarounds to quickly resolve technical issues while working to develop long-term solutions.
  • Support web services and batch interfaces to ensure timely delivery of data and accurate processing.
  • Escalate severity and communicate to all levels of management when necessary.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all information entered into production scheduling, problem management systems and Azure DevOps when applicable.
  • Monitor production application performance. Alerting team members and management on errors and trends identified. Collaborate to find resolutions on all issues.
  • Must have flexibility with work hours and be able to provide on-demand support as required.
  • Writing operational deployment documentation and other technical documentation
  • Document findings, including new defects, and work with support teams to enhance the knowledgebase.
  • Work closely with project managers, business systems analysts and DBAs, concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems and asking questions to obtain information, clarify details and implement solutions.
  • Proactively update professional and technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house, web casts and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications
  • May act as a vendor liaison while maintaining relationships with external suppliers and vendors for specified processes.
  • Problem-solving and thinking laterally as part of a team or individually, to meet the needs of the release schedule.
  • Ensures quality of work following system development and maintenance life cycle standards. Recommends changes in system development and maintenance standards.
  • Maintains, supports, troubleshoots, and enhances current production applications as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education - College degree, preferably a B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in programming or support in a distributed computing environment
  • Experience – A minimum of four (4) years of Object-Oriented Development particularly N-Tier programming development in a distributed systems environment OR any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

  • Required technical proficiencies/knowledge.
    • Requires a strong background in custom application software development environment including the design, documentation, and implementation.
    • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle and change management.
    • Average or above ability to write/read SQL.
    • Ability to read/derive database models.
