Technical Publications Data Architect/Work Package Manager

Position Summary

This is a Hybrid position located in either Orlando, FL or Irvine, CA.

Thales is seeking a Technical Publications Data Architect/Work Package Manager to work in a dual-position role with the Technical Publications System Architect being the primary role, the Work Package Manager being the secondary role.

In this role as the Tech Pubs System Architect, you will be responsible to design, develop, and maintain a large-scale in-house, XML-based System against Industry and OEM Standards for ATA-100, ATA-2200, and S1000D Requirements.  This position shall plan, identify and assign tasks, review, and deliver new and existing XML publications products against the Standards.  Shall also provide guidelines and team notes ensuring authoring consistency for this system. 

Position shall also troubleshoot S1000D Schema Documentation Type Definition (DTD) Authoring issues by performing final Quality Assurance (QA) reviews of all technical manual products prior to delivery to customers ensuring compliance of all applicable publication specifications/standards, project business rules, formatting preferences are met.

As the Technical Publications’ Work Package Manager (WPM), shall define the plan, manage, and drive the delivery schedules for the work packages assigned, meeting overall project plans and budgets, accountable and responsible for their completions.  This position shall work closely with many organizations, from Customer Programs, Engineering, Services and Support, and the Technical Publications’ Teams ensuring deliverables meet their promised/delivery dates.  This position shall also identify risks such as scheduling, available resources, and make assessment of such risks to mitigate their impact on a work package’s commitment.  

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Definition of the Work Packages’ Scopes, including Deliverables & Key Milestones.


• Ensuring Work Package activities are defined, organized, and planned in accordance with budget, scheduling, performance, and quality requirements as defined in the Design Document.


• Responsible for generation and maintenance of Work Packages’ estimates/forecasts, ensuring each task is completed on time and within budget.


• Formal acceptance of the Work Package in consultation with and on behalf of the team who will be delivering the Work Package Scope.


• Allocation of tasks to the delivery team, overseeing progress and coordinating delivery as required.


• Regular reporting on Work Package progress.


• Prepare and maintain schedules of activities, phases, and milestones for work packages, taking account of dependencies between activities and resources constraints.


• Manage risks and opportunities proactively with internal and external stakeholders.


• Understand and adhere to formal governance processes, establish clear roles and responsibilities for your team and conduct robust internal and independent project reviews.


• Ensure deliveries of the Work Packages continuously meets the requirements as set out in the Design Document, assuring customer and stakeholder satisfactions.

Minimum Requirements

Technical Publications Data Architect’s Requirements;

• With Bachelor Degree, 10 Years’ experience as a S1000D Architect, Data Architect Certifications.


• With Master’s Degree, 7 Years’ experience as a S1000D Architect.


• 5 Years’ experience implementing new XML Projects, BREX Validation acceptances.


• 10 Years’ experience working in an ATA-100, ATA-2200 and/or S1000D Environment.


• 5 Years’ experience authoring S1000D XML Files.


• Experienced of the Business Rule Exchange (BREX) updates, and development/improvement of internal International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is preferred.


• Creation of automated methods of operation developed to overcome limitations encountered within traditional S1000D Common Source DataBase (CSDB) capabilities is preferred.


• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.


• Proactive personality with the ability to work with limited guidance and supervision.


• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Technical Publications’ Work Package Manager’s Requirements;

• Bachelor´s Degree in computer science, software engineering, Electronics engineering, or related fields.


• PMI (Project Management Institute) Certificate.


• Proven Project Management Skills.


• Experience managing multiple projects and technical teams.


• English language fluency (B2 or above).

Preferred Qualifications

Technical Publications Data Architect’s Requirements;

• Data Architect Certifications a plus.


• In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) Experience/Knowledge with a focus of System-Level Maintenance Manuals a plus.


• PTC Arbortext and/or 4D Concept’s ADAM Knowledge/Experience a plus.


• Experience with database management software a plus.

Special Position Requirements

Schedule

• First Shift, 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday.

Travel

• Both domestic and international travel required to perform the essential functions of the position, for the first 2 years.  Frequency would be at once every quarter, for a period of one week each.

Benefits

The anticipated TTC range for this role is $90,980.00 - $192,785.00 USD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, state, or federal law.
