Job Title:Assistant or Associate Professor - Clinical


Department:Dentistry | Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesiology




Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - faculty positions within the university that are not tenure track and not eligible for tenure; on a fixed term contract. Persons with the title of professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, assistant professor-clinical and instructor-clinical. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty department and, as appropriate, regional campus; Clinical faculty are teacher/practitioners and will be engaged primarily in teaching activities. These faculty normally have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field or equivalent experience.



The faculty member responsibilities in this position include didactic and clinical instruction in both pre-doctoral and resident education as well as supporting the overall mission of the division, participation in university and college governance, and participating in the college's affiliated intramural Dental Faculty Practice. Preference will be given to a candidate that has completed a facial cosmetic fellowship with the intent to develop this specialized educational and practice opportunity for the division.



Candidates must have a DDS/DMD degree or international equivalent degree, and be eligible for a regular license by the Ohio State Dental Board (dental.ohio.gov/Licensure/Dentist). In addition, the candidate should be board eligible and/or certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.



The college completed a $95 million facility expansion that includes a surgery center creating additional educational and practice opportunities for the division. The college is physically and professionally connected to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and its hospitals. There is also an affiliation with Nationwide Children's Hospital. Both hospital systems are level one trauma facilities and tertiary care centers for the state of Ohio. The applicant is expected to practice full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and participate in maxillofacial trauma and dentoalveolar infection call for all hospitals.



Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various educational, research, and service-related communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.



Candidates will be expected to engage in research within the college and across other health science units at The Ohio State University and demonstrate high- quality scholarly work, including presentations at professional meetings and publications of basic or clinical research.

Additional Information:

By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date. Proof of vaccination will be required at time of hire.
