Adjunct Child Care InstructorDescription/Job Summary

Child Care Instructors provide expert skills and knowledge to deliver instruction to their students, focusing on ensuring students achieve the necessary skills mandated by course curricula and successfully meet course objectives. Instructors may be required to evaluate students' performance by verifying their understanding of the course material, competency of learned skills, and their ability to demonstrate applied knowledge.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Preparing and distributing class syllabus and reviewing with students.

  • Delivering a full session of instruction as assigned.

  • Assessing student outcomes through exams, quizzes, and other graded assignments where appropriate.

  • Communicating with students to support learning and goal achievement; referring student to services available to them as needed.

  • Submit required attendance, grades and other information on time based on the requirements of the Academic Affairs division.

  • Adhering to FERPA records protection laws.

  • Following the College's practices and procedures and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills

  • Ability to provide instruction in person, virtual, and online as required by the College.

  • Proficiency in required instructional and communication software as designated by the College.

  • Ability to work and cooperate with co-workers and supervisors at all levels.

  • Ability to work with, within, and promote a diverse workforce and environment.

  • Ability to coordinate the activities of several ongoing projects.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to understand and act on oral and written instructions in English.

  • Ability to maintain customer service and satisfaction as it relates to assigned unit or area of expertise.

  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field required,

  • Academic and/or professional expertise in Child Care, Child Development and/or teaching

  • 90 hours in Child Development and Curriculum.

  • Successful participation in the state of Maryland's 6-tiered credentialing system at a level 4 or higher.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or related field of study.

  • Annually have completed a minimum of 12 hours of MSDE approved training.
