Applications are invited for a twelve-month, fixed-term Academic Specialist-Outreach position for the Natural Science Transfer Scholars (NSTS) program. NSTS is an NSF-funded Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) partnership between the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University (MSU), Mott Community College (MCC), and Washtenaw Community College (WCC), which aims to promote the successful transfer of academically talented, low-income STEM students. While this position will be located within the Charles Drew Science Scholars Program at MSU, which offers academic and social support to MSU's Natural Science Transfer Scholars, the individual hired will be expected to spend time on the MCC and WCC campuses to build relationships with students, faculty, and advisors. This one-year position offers the possibility of renewal for up to 3 years based on satisfactory performance.
The outreach coordinator will support the program through recruitment of prospective students at the three institutions, relationship building across the three campuses, and coordination of a peer mentoring program to support Natural Science Transfer Scholars at MSU and engage with students in the corresponding STEM Scholars programs at MCC and WCC. In this work, the outreach coordinator will be expected to contribute to creating an environment that supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
