Job Summary


As a member of the Office of Student Success staff, the Graduate Assistant of Relational Advising, in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Enrollment & Retention Services and campus program directors, provides assistance and support for relational advising & peer mentoring programs in the Tennessee Board of Regents System (TBR). The position will develop peer mentoring training programs for students and assist with coordinating professional development opportunities and resources for campus contacts for relational advising & peer mentoring programs. The Graduate Assistant shares recommendations for best practices across TBR, conducts research on special projects related to relational advising & peer mentoring, and provides structure and collaborative support to campus program directors who provide advising or peer mentoring to students.


Must have excellent interpersonal skills, project management skills, and must be able to work in an atmosphere of ambiguity with little supervision and must be able to use existing instructional design standards and processes. The position has a remote work option.



Job Duties



  • 30% - Assist in the preparation for and, as appropriate, delivery of virtual course sessions and materials for Peer Mentoring Training for students. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Assist in the research and preparation of special projects related to relational advising and peer mentoring. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Works with the OSS Coordinator in the planning and implementation of advising & peer mentoring conferences and workshops. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Manages system-wide professional development opportunities for peer mentoring and works collaboratively with OSS Staff on student leadership conferences and workshops. - (Essential)

  • 10% - Other duties, as assigned. - (Marginal)



Minimum Qualifications


* Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, or related field
* Currently enrolled in a graduate program at a Tennessee accredited institution of higher education
* Experience with Microsoft Office and data entry



Preferred Qualifications


* Experience in project planning and execution
* Advising, training, or teaching experience
* Experience with collaborative workplace technologies



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Familiarity with academic advising or student development theories or application
* Ability in designing, developing, and evaluating web-delivered learning programs
* Knowledge of project management skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative working environment
* Prioritization skills and capacity to manage multiple deadlines
