JOB SUMMARY


The Women's Head Basketball Coach/Assistant Athletic Director plays a pivotal role in providing visionary leadership to the Women's Basketball program. This position is responsible for setting strategic goals and implementing initiatives to achieve athletic excellence. The Coach is expected to foster a culture of teamwork, integrity, and accountability among student-athletes, coaches, and staff while creating a work environment conducive to success both on and off the court. The primary responsibilities include leading and administering the intercollegiate Women's Basketball program. This will involve overseeing all aspects of the program such as recruitment, budgeting, equipment maintenance, travel planning, and scheduling practices and competitions while ensuring compliance with institutional and athletic regulations. In addition, the Coach will focus on player development by instructing student athletes in skills, tactics, and fitness. The Coach will also provide academic advisement and support, including career exploration, academic planning, and transfer opportunities. Such advisement will require collaboration with various departments for campus-wide programming and events to enhance student engagement and community outreach.




ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



Program Leadership and Administration (60%)



  • Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching program for the women's basketball team, focusing on skill development, game strategy, and player fitness.

  • Recruit talented student-athletes to join the women's basketball program, utilizing various recruitment strategies including scouting, networking, and building relationships with high school coaches and athletes.

  • Organize and conduct regular team practices, ensuring that all players receive proper instruction and guidance to reach their full potential.

  • Plan and execute game strategies during competitions, providing effective leadership and motivation to the team.

  • Monitor the academic progress and personal development of student-athletes, fostering a positive and supportive team environment.

  • Lead and administer the intercollegiate Women's Basketball program, including recruitment, budgeting, equipment maintenance, travel planning, and scheduling for practices and competitions for 15 participants.

  • Instruct student-athletes in skills, tactics, rules, and fitness for Women's Basketball at the intercollegiate level.

  • Manage, advise, and counsel the women's basketball athletes and others as needed, on academic and career goals; assist students with career exploration and confirming academic major; determine student course placement; develop an academic plan; guide students through the advising and registration tools, such as, Cougar Net, Degree Works and Schedule Planner, etc.

  • Collaborate with academic divisions to develop and implement advising strategies tailored to meet the unique needs of athletes/students within each discipline; and advise on transfer opportunities and monitor progress and student success.

  • Lead and administer the intercollegiate Women's Basketball program, including recruitment, budgeting, equipment maintenance, travel planning, and scheduling for practices and competitions for 15 participants.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional, TCCAA, and NJCAA rules and regulations.




Assistant Athletic Director Support 20%



  • Assist the Athletic Director with administrative tasks such as budget management, scheduling, facility coordination, and compliance with college and conference regulations.

  • Collaborate with other coaches and staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the athletic department and compliance with institutional policies.

  • Represent the athletic department at meetings, events, and conferences as needed, acting as a liaison between the department and external stakeholders.

  • Provide input and support for strategic planning initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall effectiveness and success of the athletic program.




Enrollment Processes and Recruitment Support (15%)



  • Serve as a resource for student-athletes navigating the enrollment process, including admissions applications, financial aid, and course registration.

  • Offer academic advising and support services, assisting students in developing academic plans that align with their athletic commitments and career goals.

  • Monitor academic progress and provide intervention and support for students experiencing academic challenges.

  • Engage with alumni, fans, and community stakeholders to promote the athletic program and recruit support for student-athletes.

  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to organize events and initiatives that enhance the visibility and impact of the athletic program.

  • Serve as a positive ambassador for the institution, representing its values and commitment to excellence in athletics and academics.

  • Works in collaboration with CSCC Recruitment Office to assist and provide support for recruitment activities.

  • Represents the college at various events, to include, but not limited to, community fairs, events to facilitate outreach.

  • Positively represents the college to various stakeholder groups and communities.

  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and engagement among participants.

  • Coordinate with Student Life and Enrollment Services for campus-wide programming and events.

  • Assist in marketing strategies and special events to enhance student engagement.




Non-Essential Functions (5%):



  • Must attend all college functions as required.

  • Serve on various college committees as approved by the supervisor.

  • Serve on TCCAA and NJCAA committees as appropriate.

  • The appointee will be required to meet those standards now required or which in the future may be required by the Tennessee State Board of Regents and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

  • The appointee may be required to achieve additional skill, knowledge, or credential levels.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including skills for teaching, public speaking, and public relations.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Knowledge of procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency.

  • Knowledge of comprehensive community college concept.





JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university

  • Minimum two years of coaching women's basketball as an assistant or head coach

  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Minimum of four years basketball coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, is required.

  • Ability to recruit student athletes and create an atmosphere conducive to student success in academics, personal development, and athletics.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with various software packages including Microsoft office suite.

  • Valid Driver's License.




JOB LOCATION



  • The main campus of Cleveland State Community College is the primary workplace,

  • Regular travel to athletic events at other institutions is expected, along with travel for recruitment purposes.
