The Greenville, North Carolina, USA site is a large, multipurpose pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, and packaging campus. The operation provides both development and commercial services for sterile injectables and oral solid dose forms.




Position summary




The main goal for the position is to enable a continuous improvement approach across the business through leading education and utilization of our Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System, which includes the PPI 8-step problem solving methodology and Lean principles. The incumbent will directly support and be a member of the leadership team within a Business Unit, serving as the program manager to lead and guide the business unit efforts to drive improvement to operational effectiveness. This role will drive standard application of tools, demonstrating initiative solutions from across the network and reporting productivity metrics to their functional leader.



Key Responsibilities



  • Further develop/promote/standardize the PPI Business System. Drive continuous improvement and Standard Work methodology across the organization to achieve targets in growth, quality, and productivity.

  • Direct a team a team of PPI staff members.

  • Establish and mature the Lean Management System (tiered daily management systems, gemba walks, and other coaching tools for transformation and continuous improvement.

  • Lead PPI Steering Committee to ensure there is an active pipeline of PPI projects aligned to business priorities, metrics and results. Ensure that there is a proven sustainability mechanism/review for past projects.

  • Challenge leaders to create an action-based culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve KPI's, including growth, productivity, inventory, and customer allegiance.

  • Facilitate, support and/or lead of a wide range and scope of improvement initiatives using traditional PPI improvement tools and methodologies while simultaneously transferring relevant PPI knowledge and capabilities to staff.

  • Statistical analysis of process data and, through working with technicians at the point-of-work, recommend/implement optimization solutions to maintain/improve performance and ensure customer requirements are being met.

  • Work within functional areas to tackle problems and develop solutions which address true root cause(s); transfer problem-solving and process improvement knowledge and competencies through all working relationships.

  • Serve as the primary business unit PPI change agent: promote a site-wide culture of process and performance excellence, challenging traditional thinking, boundaries and modes of operation.

  • Perform internal and external benchmarking to measure success and identify improvement opportunities.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or business-related field. (preferred).

  • Proven experience, 5+ years, working as a full time Continuous Improvement leader.

  • 10+ years working in an operations or manufacturing environment.


  • Formal lean training and extensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools, with Lean Six Sigma Black Belt strongly preferred.

  • Experience leading Kaizen events including elements such as standard work, 5S, Kanban, cell design, DMAIC, process and product 3P, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), error-proofing, material flow, TPM and Set up reduction.

  • Experience with leading a team and providing hands-on leadership.

  • Experience developing, training, and coaching employee teams in a continuous improvement environment.

  • Experience with coaching alignment between strategic business plans and lean improvement plans, (i.e. Strategic A3's, X-matrix), Change Management Certification preferred.

  • A 'hands-on' track record of implementing successful Continuous Improvement (CI) elements such as: Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Leader Standard Work, and Gemba Walks)

  • A comprehensive problem solver who is effective in influencing leaders to develop transformational target states and rapidly motivate change.

  • Provide critical thinking to anticipate future issues and challenges and create appropriate plans now, using proactive approaches.



  • Passion for driving business improvement and leading change.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including accomplished written, oral and presentational skills. Comfortable and capable presenting at all levels of the organization

  • Detail oriented with the ability to see bigger picture and envision step-change scenarios.

  • Broad knowledge of financial business methods

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices and experience and understanding of basics of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing would be an asset.

  • Strong negotiating skills are an asset.
