Family Interventionist



This position is for the Division of General Academic Pediatrics (GAP) within the Department of Pediatrics. The incumbent will conduct home-based intervention visits on a weekly basis; caseload will be approximately 10-15 families each week. This individual will employ the evidence-based model, the Family Check-Up, for families with expectant parents and parents of children ages birth to 5 years old. Goals of the program include: improving parenting skills and involvement in their children's lives, promoting parental well-being and social support, and reducing risk of child behavioral and emotional problems. To be eligible, families will be facing multiple levels of adversity, including economic, family (e.g., depression, history of substance use), and/or child (e.g., early irritability, disruptive behavior) challenges. The incumbent must possess a master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field. In addition, this individual must attain certification in the Family Check-Up parenting intervention within 12 months of hire (training and supervision in the intervention will be provided). Note that this position is funded by non-university funds and the continuation of this position is contingent upon the renewal of these funds. Driving is required for this position. The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and carry insurance if using own vehicle. A university vehicle is available on a limited basis. The owner’s automobile liability insurance coverage is primary coverage. The University’s automobile liability insurance policy provides excess coverage only. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Job Summary

Provides targeted, advanced-level, clinical counseling, psychotherapy, cognitive rehabilitation and/or behavioral health services addressing a range of mental health concerns for a diverse population of students/clients utilizing specialized techniques to foster development, remediate mental health problems, and promote positive mental health. Facilitates comprehensive assessments and treatments, referrals for hospitalizations, and/or case reviews.


Essential Functions

• Provides targeted, advanced-level, clinical psychotherapy services for a range of mental health concerns, including prevention and crisis services, individual and group therapy, intake services, and diagnostic functions.
• Utilizes specialized techniques to foster student/client development, remediate mental health problems, promote positive mental health, develop individual treatment plans, and support academic success.
• Works effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Facilitates coordination of services.
• Collaborates with the medical psychiatrist when required; provides back-up for other therapists.
• Conducts comprehensive, strength-based, and behavior-focused assessments and treatments. Facilitates behavior changes by utilizing research-based cognitive and behavioral strategies.
• Documents clinical interactions. Maintains confidential records and protected information. Writes reports as directed.
• Participates in case reviews and on treatment teams.
• May facilitate referrals for voluntary and involuntary hospitalizations.
