Overview

We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Software Engineer on our Networking Technology team in our Cary, NC location. (this is an individual contributor role). As a member of the Networking Technology team, you will deliver software features for a diverse set of innovative products such as next generation dashcams, fishfinders, chartplotters, and personal navigation devices tailored for off-roading, racing, trucking, and recreation. We push the limits of wireless connectivity to deliver advanced features such as remote device monitoring, live video streaming, Group Ride setup, automated cloud storage uploads, automatic software and map updates, speech recognition, and many more unique capabilities.

Essential Functions


  • Design and deliver high-quality embedded C software on embedded Linux and RTOS devices

  • Lead development and direct effort on complex software features

  • Prototype and productize software features in a fast-paced environment

  • Integrate and test third-party and open-source software using software engineering best practices

  • Analyze, debug, and resolve Wi-Fi and LTE performance and interoperability issues using tenacity and ingenuity

  • Offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs

  • Work closely with product teams to implement innovative connectivity use-cases and to enhance existing designs to meet new requirements

  • Actively participate in code reviews by giving and receiving detailed feedback to and from other engineers

  • Deliver features up and down the software stack, from integrating drivers to writing software to managing Wi-Fi or LTE interfaces to porting open-source application protocols

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficient in writing software in embedded C on a Linux or RTOS system

  • Experience or a keen interest in wireless networking technologies and TCP/IP protocols

  • Excel at collaborative software development in a distributed, multi-team environment

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project

  • Ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity, and complexity in work output

  • Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs

  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Wi-Fi or LTE protocols

  • Working knowledge of Python or other scripting languages

  • Experience with open source networking related software such as libwebsockets, Mbed TLS, NGINX, or cURL
