Role: HR/EHS Manager

Summary of Position:

Seattle Galvanizing Company is in search of an experienced and dynamic HR/EHS Manager to play a pivotal role within our organization. This position uniquely combines the responsibilities of Human Resources (HR) and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) oversight across our three facilities-two located in Arlington and one in Sedro Woolley. As the cornerstone of both departments, the incumbent will directly manage and engage in the workload of the EHS Coordinator and HR Generalist, ensuring all practices are in strict compliance with state regulatory requirements. The HR/EHS Manager will be instrumental in developing safety programs, implementing HR strategies, and fostering a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and employee engagement. By maintaining operational efficiency and legal compliance, this role is critical in promoting a productive work environment across all sites. Based out of the Arlington facility, the HR/EHS Manager will coordinate activities and policies across the locations, ensuring consistency and adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements. This position requires a hands-on leader capable of navigating the complexities of HR and EHS management within a multi-facility context.

Core Responsibilities:

HR Department:
  • Manage and oversee full-cycle recruiting, including application review, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Oversee daily management and reporting of manual & digital time records for all employees.
  • Maintain accurate, consistent employee personnel files and tracking of pertinent dates.
  • Provide timely performance feedback, manage performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and improvement plans.
  • Handle the separation process and conduct exit interviews.
  • Offer HR advice, support, consultation, and guidance, applying HR policies and processes effectively.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Lead employee relations initiatives and investigations, ensuring a fair work environment.
  • Manage injury claims and L&I claims in collaboration with the EHS Coordinator.
  • Develop and implement HR programs to promote employee engagement, performance, satisfaction, and retention.

EHS Department:
  • Ensure compliance with State environmental health and safety regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate regulatory programs, permitting applications, and maintain updated knowledge on environmental issues.
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct EHS training programs, including emergency response training.

  • Oversee chemical additions, bag house filter changeouts, hazardous waste shipments, and storm water filter maintenance.
  • Coordinate safety meetings and ensure the preparation of hazardous waste annual reports, pollution prevention plans, and other regulatory filings.
  • Assist in maintaining Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR) highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Paylocity HRIS preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in HR and/or EHS management, preferably in the Galvanizing, Abrasive Blasting, and Industrial Painting industries.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (MS Office, Excel, Word, and QuickBooks).
  • Certification or willingness to obtain First Aid, CPR, and hazardous waste material certification.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:
  • The role demands a flexible approach, with work primarily in an office setting but frequent visits to production areas required.
  • The environment is fast-paced and demanding, requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Will be required to do site visits at all 3 locations as needed.

  • Full-time position with a standard shift of 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
