Job Description:

Responsible for the execution of daily routing, shipping, tracing and ontime service of Medline orders. Leads a team of three coordinators and is the primary resource for answering questions regarding shipments to Carriers, Sales, Divisions, and Operations Management. This job requires the maintenance of good relations with the internal and external parties that play a role in Medline's freight processes. Oversees the successful execution of Operations freight policy which directly impacts $30MM in annual expense across approximately 200,000 annual shipments .

Responsibilities:


  • Acts as the primary point of contact for all tactical, shipment related issues/questions across the distribution network, Customer Service and Sales. Working with a team of three coordinators, the Manager reports on critical shipment KPIs and insures service standards are achieved across 3,800 shipments per/week.

  • Maintains the settings and rate structures in the TMS system. Updates routings, weight breaks and No. of service days to customers under the direction of the VP Logistics.

  • Works with Branches and Carriers daily to successfully route and deliver Medline products at agreed to standards within FPS (Freight as a Percentage of Sales) targets. Resolves operational issues and insures capacity is place to fulfill shipping demand.

  • Supports customer freight analyses and provides Sales/Operations with data to properly align Freight Services to Customer requirements. Assists the procurement team in carrier rate negoitations and provides service feedback / corrective action recommendations.

  • Directly manages a team of three coordinators and is responsible for their professional development while training them to be the independent, credible sources of shipment information back to internal stakeholders.

Requirements:


  • Education: 4 year degree required with 3 - 5 years of progressive logistics management experience regarding domestic transportation.
  • Clear understanding of the Transportation Industry, How contracts are created, Carrier Tariffs are created and work, rating knowledge, automated TMS (Transportation Management System) system functionality.
  • Experienced in carrier operations management across LTL and Parcel carriers. Truckload freight management is a plus. History of resolving tactical shipping issues and demonstrated ability to improve carrier service and processes.

  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of TMS systems, MS Windows, MS Office 2003 or newer; Web Focus and carrier ratings systems; SAP a plus.
