Description of Work

An Assessment Administration Clerk, under general supervision, performs assessing support activities following well-defined departmental office procedures. An employee in this class is expected to exercise judgment and knowledge obtained on the job and refers technical matters to supervisors for decisions and direction. This employee processes and reviews real estate transfer documents, analyzes aerial maps, tax maps and property surveys, prepares department files and types forms, letters and other related documents, assists the public in filling out standard forms, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. Must have completed forty-five (45) semester hours of college level course work from an accredited college or university (or equivalent quarter hours); OR

Be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development test (GED); AND have at least one of the following:

a. Possess a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certification from an accredited college or university; OR

b. Demonstrate 6 months of work experience in GIS, Equalization Department, Planning Department, Building Inspections, or Real Estate; OR

c. Possess 15 or more credit hours in direct GIS classes; OR

d. Have at least six months of experience in an Assessors office; OR

e. Possess a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) or Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO) certificate or higher Assessment Administration certificate or possess a valid Appraisal License issued by the State of Michigan.

2. Must obtain a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) certification within one (1) year of hire date to maintain employment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work activities requiring the lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

An Assessment Administration Clerk works at the locations of the Equalization Department.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

Any applicant is entitled to a review of any determination or action taken by the County regarding the applicants employment application. Inquiries should be directed to the County Human Resources Department.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
