Laboratory Technologist, Pharmacology - College of Veterinary MedicineThe University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for the position of Laboratory Technologist, located in the Pharmacology Laboratory. The Pharmacology Laboratory serves faculty, staff, and students within the UTCVM, as well as clinicians, residents, and researchers across the country, including many zoos and aquariums. The Pharmacology Laboratory is a multifaceted environment involved in research, teaching and clinical service. This position exists to provide technical support in the Pharmacology Laboratory by performing routine procedures on clinical specimens in the course of diagnostic testing or clinical research for a wide range of clientele. The Lab Tech I also assists in writing Standard Operating Procedures, documents and troubleshoots problems that arise, focuses on quality assurance, and helps ensure that all equipment is maintained.Depending on qualifications of the successful candidate, position will begin as a Laboratory Technologist 1, Laboratory Technologist 2, Senior Laboratory Technologist 1, or Senior Laboratory Technologist 2. More responsibilities will be expected of those hired in at a more advanced level.



Qualifications

Typical Responsibilities:Performs a variety of routine procedures including solution preparation, sample extraction, integration of results, and statistical analysis. Provides check-in and inventory of samples. Orders laboratory supplies. Documents and troubleshoots problems that arise. Assists with maintenance of laboratory equipment.Assists with development and validation of new protocols. Researches and validates new procedures for use in the lab. Conducts data base searches and literature reviews to obtain information on possible procedures for new assays conducted in the lab.
Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
    Basic analytical skills such as pipetting, buffer calculations and preparation, and centrifuge use. High
    performance liquid chromatography use.
