Job Title:Senior Security Officer (HS)Department:Health System Shared Services | Security

This position is responsible for the security of an outpatient location and/or this position is an active field training officer of any assigned shift to provide support and be able to maintain a secured environment for our staff, physicians, patients and visitors. The Senior Security officer must have advanced knowledge of the unique security department operations at the Medical Center and be willing and able to step in and operate independently to assist multiple areas and departments. Senior Officers will assist Department Administration and on-site property managers in the management of the patient property and investigation functions. Senior Officers must be highly knowledgeable about departmental operations and training processes.



Position Summary
The Senior Security Officer provides on-going field training services for newly hired security officers and/or performs security services for offsite Medical Center facilities and locations. This will include facilitating monthly meetings with newly hired employees to review progress and assess knowledge, skills and abilities. The Senior Security Officer will be responsible for continuing the monthly meetings during the newly hired employee's probationary period for one year and submitting feedback to the employee's manager. This position performs public and patient safety functions including ensuring property is secured by patrolling buildings and grounds, staffing fixed security posts, monitoring persons entering and leaving facilities, monitoring cameras, and security and alarm systems. This position responds to emergencies as part of their regular responsibilities and are required to maintain specific levels of training and knowledge relating to the various property they secure. This position will be responsible for leading after action incident debriefings with clinical staff and ensuring that impacted employees have access to emotional support resources. Assists in overseeing and managing patient property and valuables, the investigation of patient property losses or thefts, Medical Center thefts, and employee accidents assigned to the Security Department for follow up. The Senior Officer ensures complete and accurate reports with recommendations, as appropriate, are submitted following all investigations. This position requires limited supervision and work may be expected without well-defined procedures or instructions. Reports Public Safety and Security concerns and performs all other security department functions as necessary.



Minimum Qualifications


High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be required. Associate degree in relevant field may be preferred. 2 years of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant experience preferred.



Valid Ohio drivers' license; eligibility for faithful performance bond is required; must pass health standards and requirements passed by department prior to appointment; must serve 12 months probationary period from date of employment. Certification in non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) or crisis intervention techniques (CIT) is required. Must have a current Basic Security Officer Certificate through the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). Must be willing to carry a Taser and complete the Taser certification training within 30 days of hire.




Physical/Visual/Mental Requirements
Position requires employee to be able to move rapidly from one location to another through entire medical complex. Employee will be in contact with all levels of staff plus patients from all walks of life and must be able to communicate effectively and professionally. Employee will be required to be either standing or walking constantly in performing the function of the position. Occasionally to frequently will be required to run to expedite movement and to climb or descend stairs. Visual acuity to observe situation both near and far through a wide range of vision, is a constant requirement. Employee is required to act independently or in concert with others in restraining, physically holding, or detaining patients, visitors or other employees on an occasional basis. Must be able to lift or support 50% of body weight. Employee must have and be able to maintain a Valid Ohio Drivers License. Must be certified and able to perform CPR and give first aid.
Work Environment




Position requires being exposed to abusive and violent patients, visitors, employees in the medical complex. May be exposed to potentially infectious diseases. Be able to function calmly in very stressful situations. Be able to demonstrate physical fitness, agility and dexterity. Be able to operate and use department issued equipment. Be able to work rotating schedules. May be exposed to bad weather. Because our hospitals never close, all Health System and James employees are deemed essential. Be certified and able to perform CPR give first aid.
There is a 12 month probationary period for the Senior Security Officer position. Must pass annual certification training on the use of a Taser.
