Are you an experienced Asphalt Screed Operator who's passionate about creating smooth and even asphalt surfaces? If so, we want you on our team! As our Asphalt Screed Operator, you will be responsible for controlling the material taken into the paver, ensuring smoothness and uniformity in the mat, and maintaining the ride quality of the asphalt. Your attention to detail will be crucial in ensuring that each asphalt lift properly relates to abutting ramps, driveways, curbs, inlets, manholes, valves, joints, and other fixed structures.



Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all company safety requirements, procedures, and policies, along with OSHA regulations, to ensure a safe working environment for yourself, co-workers, pedestrians, and the traveling public.
  • Complete daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
  • Operate and manipulate cranks and tow points on the back of the asphalt machine to spread and level asphaltic concrete on subgrade and related surfaces such as highways, roadways, parking lots, etc.
  • Control material taken into the paver and the depth of material being distributed through the paver, ensuring smoothness and uniformity in the mat and maintaining ride quality.
  • Perform quality control duties, reporting any issues or irregularities to the supervisor.
  • Follow the direction of the supervisor for each specific project or jobsite.
  • Maintain a grade log and execute general labor duties when necessary.
  • Assist in training less experienced employees on proper equipment operation, methods, and servicing and repair.




Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating asphalt screed machine on public road/highway projects.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to move levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
  • Ability to move hand and foot levers to control hydraulic shovel, forks, or platform.
  • Ability to feel lever and listen for stalling action of the engine to estimate depth of cut.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Ability to work overtime and be flexible with hours (daytime/nighttime).
