Position Summary:

The Senior Coordinator, Habitat Hero is responsible for increasing community-based stewardship and urban conservation through community building and outreach. They will do this through a successful community outreach, specifically with local municipalities as well as Audubon Rockies’ community science programs. The Senior Coordinator will help continue fostering partnerships with community groups within the urban geographies of the Audubon Rockies territory (i.e. Front range of Colorado and Wyoming as well as Salt Lake City, UT). The Senior Coordinator, Habitat Hero will translate Audubon’s conservation message by developing and/or coordinating a variety of outreach programs that reach local communities, municipalities, classrooms, family and adult audiences, and carry out citizen science opportunities.


Compensation:


$55,000 - $60,000 / year


Essential Functions
  • Responsible for establishing new relationships, while maintaining and growing existing relationships with community groups, supporters, and potential program presenters to develop programing with them to further Audubon’s mission.

  • Be the lead in offsite speaking engagements at local organizations, tabling at community events, and attending relevant community meetings to engage groups in Audubon’s initiatives.

  • Plan, publicize and conduct outreach events in coordination with Education and Conservation staff (Habitat Hero workshops, field trips, talks, etc.), and communicating about the importance of Bird Friendly communities, and climate change.

  • Build relationships with diverse groups through various actions, including but not limited to creating programs and events and delivering offsite programs for them.

  • Collaborate with local and regional city governments, municipalities, and urban partners to develop strategies to promote native plants and landscapes, bird friendly buildings and other conservation practices as part of the development and planning footprint process.

  • Build creative partnerships to expand our community outreach to influence, integrate native plant and bird friendly practices into all aspects of urban development more effectively.

  • Continue to build a strong volunteer recruitment and training program to become Habitat Hero Ambassadors throughout the region.

  • Maintain records related to program and volunteer management and report on metrics, as requested.

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships/collaboration with other organizations that share Audubon’s mission.

  • Assist in coordination of special events as indicated by the Executive Director

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, science, communications, or related field required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Three plus years of experience in community outreach preferably within local government and community-based organizations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software essential.

  • Proven experience in outreach, and working with other organizations, teachers & naturalists, in both formal and informal settings.

  • Knowledge of flora and fauna of the region with an emphasis on birds.

  • Excellent knowledge of native plants, how to successfully plan, plant and maintain native gardens.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Ability to adapt and use resources efficiently and creatively, as well as take initiative and manage time with competing priorities.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings as the position demands.

  • Must be willing to travel occasionally throughout regions as position demands.

  • An engaging and energetic demeanor and the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and potential partners will be fundamental to success.

  • A passion for conservation of the natural resources of the Rockies region.

  • Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and be able to multi-task.

  • Experience working with nonprofit, volunteer-based organizations preferred.
