Job Description:

The Research Data Architect plays a critical role in the leadership of the Biomedical Research Informatics Center (BRIC) to design, build, and maintain a robust and scalable data infrastructure. The Research Data Architect will report to and strategize with the Manager of Research Data and Analytics to develop technical solutions meeting the complex and dynamic informatics needs of the Nemours research community. They will lead extract, transform, load (ETL) efforts ensuring seamless data integration across various systems and platforms.

The Research Data Architect will also develop sustainable solutions for archiving and querying data from legacy databases. The candidate will partner with Nemours IS counterparts to ensure that the respective business, application, data and technology perspectives are in line with the overarching organization's technology and governance strategies, policies, and standards. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, they will contribute to the enhancement of data quality, security, accessibility, and reusability. Additionally, the candidate will be instrumental in fostering innovation and efficiency within our health system and with external collaborators, including those in the University of Delaware INBRE and PEDSnet research communities.   • Utilize SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) to develop and maintain efficient, scalable, and normalized database architectures for research data storage.
  • Proficiency in healthcare data models like Epic Clarity/Caboodle and OMOP.
  • Lead ETL processes using tools to integrate data from diverse sources into the research databases, ensuring data quality and consistency, and proficiency in data integration tools such as dbt, Informatica, and MS Integration Services.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other relevant data access and protection regulations.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager or PostgreSQL Performance Analyzer, implementing indexing and caching strategies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation using tools like Confluence or Markdown, covering database structures, ETL processes, and data models for effective knowledge transfer.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies, applying them in database design and management, with proficiency in version control systems such as Git.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, etc. and knowledge of big data toolsets.
  • Leads root cause, troubleshooting or problem resolution teams to resolve chronic production problems.
  • Presents findings, recommendations, and specifications in formal reports and/or oral presentations to Supervisors, Project Managers, and/or Peers.

  • Qualifications:

    • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics, information systems or another quantitative field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
    • Preferred Master's degree in computer science, informatics, information systems or another quantitative field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
