Under general supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Manager, the Echo Technologist safely performs all Echocardiogram procedures and arterial segmental BP studies in accordance with established procedures.
Requirements Education: Completion of formal cardiovascular technology training program required.
Experience: None required, one year of experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Certification eligible by the ARDMS or CCI required, with registry obtained within one (1) year of eligibility. Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, before patient care is administered independently.
Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is mostly inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens.
LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Perform all echocardiogram, stress echos, pharmaceutical stress echos, transesophageal echos and arterial segmental BP's
Position and transfer patients appropriately
Provide adequate privacy for the patient
Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis such as tissue Doppler, contrast agents, etc
Select, setup and operate all equipment as directed
Provide protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards
Responsible for specific areas of instruction for personnel as delegated
Practice sterile technique and prevent cross contamination. (Example: cleaning of echo equipment, sound heads & tee scope.)
Perform arterial studies using Doppler, Photoplethysmograph (PPG), Pulse Volume Recording (PVR) and Segmental Limb Pressures
Developing file records of reports. Help with medical records if a copy of the echo tape is needed
Assist in performing CQI for the department
Ensures correct charges are submitted for services rendered
Assist with developing and updating policy and procedures concerning echo cardiology department
Ordering supplies and maintaining equipment needed for Echos and Arterial Segmental Doppler studies
Attends in-services and meetings as required
Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI
Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct
Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately
