Middle High School Athletic Director

Position Details: This position reports to the assistant principal

General Description:

We are looking for a dynamic Athletic Director to lead our interscholastic athletics program at Charlevoix Middle High School. The Athletic Director will be responsible for organizing, managing, and overseeing all aspects of our athletic program in accordance with school policies and athletic association regulations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Master’s degree in K-12 Administration or Athletics Administration preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of five years of teaching, coaching and /or AD experience preferred.
• Knowledge: Understanding of athletic program operations, college/NCAA recruiting process, organized funding practices, and Title IX guidelines are valuable.

 

Responsibilities:

• Program Management:
  • Organize and administer the interscholastic athletics program, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations while developing a short- and long-term vision for the program.
  • Develop athletic policies in collaboration with key stakeholders and oversee equipment evaluation and selection, maintaining inventory and recommending coaching assignments.
  • Monitor the District athletic program for gender equality compliance and serve as the liaison to athletic organizations, attending meetings and ensuring effective communication.
• Financial Oversight:
  • Maintain accurate budget records, manage finances within the athletic department, and prepare and submit required reports to support financial transparency.
• Coach Development:
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and evaluating coaching staff to enhance the student experience, maintain program standards, and ensure continuous improvement.
• Event Coordination:
  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise athletic events to ensure smooth operations, including overseeing the establishment of admission prices and coordinating facility scheduling.
• Student Conduct:
  • Enforce the athletic code of conduct, address violations promptly, and communicate effectively with parents regarding student-athlete behavior to uphold standards of sportsmanship.
• Leadership:
  • Lead department functions and events, such as student advisory groups and booster programs, to foster a positive athletic environment and engage the school community.
  • Knowledge and monitor compliance of MHSAA in and out of season rules and regulations.
  • Lead the district in fostering a supportive environment for our extracurricular activities within a co-curricular framework.
• Operational Support:
  • Attend home and some away athletic contests, league meetings, and other necessary events, coordinate security measures, schedule event workers, and ensure compliance with academic and athletic eligibility requirements.
  • Arrange transportation for athletic contests, maintain coaches' contracts, handle building and field permits, assist with the budget, and perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall athletic department's operations.

Salary and Contract:

The Charlevoix Public Schools Board of Education will provide a competitive compensation package. The actual salary and fringe benefits will be commensurate with the education and experience of the candidate. The work year is 210 days. The starting salary range is $92,000 - $103,000. The starting date for this position is August 5, 2024. The Assistant Principal will annually evaluate the job performance of the Middle High School Athletic Director in accordance with Board policies, the performance responsibilities listed above, and other goals mutually established between both parties.
