CENTROID is an acronym for Customer Enabled Network Transformation using Optimization, Innovation and Design. The team develops supply chain strategies and roadmap to lead the allocation of capital, and develop intelligent decision engines that enable digital orchestration of the physical network

What you'll do...

Walmart's CENTROID org is transforming the future of Walmart's omnichannel supply chain strategy. Our team of industry-leading experts, consultants, and technologists combine exceptional strategic thinking with data science and advanced analytics to solve the world's most complex supply chain challenges at Walmart's scale. Our mission is to design a supply chain that leverages Walmart's unique advantages to provide a wide product assortment, offer the lowest costs, and build cutting-edge capabilities through transformative initiatives.

The CENTROID Data Science team develops intelligent solutions to make highly visible and big impact decisions in Network transformation at Walmart. The work includes solving problems such as Ambient and Perishable inbound network design, middle mile network flow optimization, last mile delivery and returns design, inventory placement and targets, transportation and monetization strategies to provide Walmart a competitive edge in the medium to long term. We primarily employ various techniques from operations research to classical machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, causal inference and statistics. Our work is innovative and is published in top-tier conferences and journals. You will be part of the team that won the prestigious INFORMS Franz Edelman award in 2023.

What we are looking for
  • Ph.D/M.S. in a quantitative discipline such as Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, with up to 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Be able to leverage your thesis in Operations Research or Statistics or an equivalent quantitative field involving math programming techniques, stochastic programming, statistical and/or machine learning methods
  • Experience with one or more of optimization toolkits/libraries like CPlex, Gurobi, XPressMP or open-source solvers.
  • Strong software development skills in languages such as Python and familiarity with machine learning libraries such as Scikit, Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras. Data querying ability using Sql.
  • Ability to communicate your results to both technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross functional leaders

You'll sweep us off our feet if...
  • You have proven ability as a full stack data scientist who develops, optimizes, and scales models for the production environment
  • You have a proven ability with the optimization modeling techniques (Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, Non-Linear Programming) as well as advanced statistical modeling techniques (e.g., SVM, Random Forest, Bayesian inference, Graph models, NLP, Computer Vision, Neural Networks, etc.)
  • You have experience with Cloud technologies such as GCP, Azure as well as with Spark, Hive and TensorFlow etc.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications

Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.

Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years' experience in an analytics related field.

Option 3: 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field
