Position Summary:
Buyer / Planner will act as liaison between vendors, new product development and engineering while ensuring appropriate procurement strategy. Monitor commodities important for material cost savings of existing portfolio and initiate revision requests with suppliers / engineering for cost downs and/or product improvement through value engineering. Review the system generated MRP and various other reports to generate and track purchase orders based on the item demand. Monitor and request supplier expedites according to planning and demand schedules. Primary contact for vendors assigned.
Responsibilities:
Review MRP Messages and/or reports weekly.
Execute item expedites and/or Defer items with suppliers as required.
Research potential suppliers, compare products, prices, and value-added services.
Negotiate cost, terms, and warranty.
Issue and update purchase orders/dates with domestic and/or international vendors.
Ensure relevant information is provided to demand planning team for review.
Provide resolution of quality issues with suppliers as needed.
Generate material cost savings through strategic sourcing/commodity management.
Collect competitive RFQ's, benchmark and approve supplier selection.
Collaborate with accounting to handle vendor payment issues.
Assist in the development of strategic supplier relationships.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience inpurchasing role as a buyer, with knowledge and use of MRP/DRP systems to facilitate purchases.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
Sound knowledge of procurement, value & cost analysis.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Negotiation and Strategic sourcing experience.
Strong communication skills for effective and professional interaction with customers, partners, vendors, and fellow employees.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Supply Chain or a related field or equivalent experience.
Experience with JD Edwards.
