Position Overview:

As the Director of Operations at Surefitters, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing the operational functions of our upfitting production. This position requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in leading people and processes, ensuring quality standards, and driving operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a comprehensive understanding of upfitting processes, and the ability to implement and oversee operational strategies that align with the company's goals. The Director of Operations will have direct reports to include functional leaders in Production, Supply Chain, Customer Service and Engineering. This position has approximately six direct reports and up to sixty indirect reports; and works directly for the President of the Company.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Execution:
  • Participate in senior leadership strategy sessions to establish short-term and long-term company goals.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to achieve the company's short-term and long-term goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align operational initiatives with overall business objectives.
  • Champion the Surefitters Operational Excellence Program,

Production Management:
  • Responsible for operational excellence within upfit, ensuring safe and efficient production, quality products, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement best practices to optimize production efficiency while maintaining employee safety and high-quality standards.
  • Ensure timely completion of projects and adherence to production schedules.

Quality Assurance:
  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure that upfitting processes meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Lead a Quality Management System process that tracks defects per unit, and use this data to drive improvements to product quality and production processes.

Supply Chain Management:
  • Leading through the Supply Chain Manager, ensure the Company is well-positioned with strategic, long-term vendor partners. Strive for reliable, but cost-effective solutions to procurement issues.
  • Implement inventory management strategies to minimize stockouts and excessive inventory.

Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead with a "lead through people/leaders" mentality that fosters opportunity and security for direct and indirect reports, developing them both personally and professionally.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and utilize training programs to enhance the skills and capability of the operations staff.
  • Give regular feedback to direct reports, and ensure direct reports are communicating with regular feedback to employees.

Health and Safety Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards in all operational activities.
  • Implement and oversee protocols to create a secure working environment.

Communication and Collaboration:
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration between operations and other functional areas within the company.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership on operational performance and key metrics.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports for the leadership team to communicate, summarize, and analyze plant performance(s).

Continuous Improvement:
  • Promote a culture of continues improvement by identifying areas for enhancement and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Lead capital expenditure process to prioritize projects and ensure projects meet return on investments standards.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years in an assembly, upfit or operations director-level leadership role
  • Minimum of 5 years in production or an upfit environment related to trucks, trailers, or mobile equipment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Profit and Loss experience including budget and managing expenditures.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing operational strategies that drive efficiency and profitability.
  • The employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must speak and understand English fluently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Director of Operations spends significant amounts of time engaged in production, supply chain, customer service, and the engineering/design processes. This position will be in-person, office-based, with significant time spent with functional groups or on the production floor.
