Food Safety and Quality Manager

SUMMARY

The Food Safety and Quality Manager will develop and oversee programs, policies, and procedures for a tree nut processing operation. Develop, implement and enforce food safety, quality, food security and sanitation programs, policies, procedures including successful completion of regulatory audits, GFSI and other third-party audits. Assist in planning and development of systems to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the Quality Department. Management of daily operations. Supervise and schedule staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.

The FSQA Manager has the overall accountability of ensuring the food safety and quality system at the plant is properly written, documented and implemented - thus ensuring the production of safe and wholesome food products. Ensure compliance within all local, state and federal food safety standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
• Responsible for QA technical & compliance system to assure food safety
• Develop and maintain documentation such as SOP's, HACCP/Food Safety Plans as well as maintenance of manuals, policies and procedures
• Update existing food safety and quality procedures and documentation to keep up with changing requirements
• Monitor and verify activities to ensure that all products coming in and going out of the facility meet food safety and quality standards
• Conduct facility inspections as well as manage third party audits
• Work closely with Operations Managers and/or Plant Managers on any food safety and quality assurance issues
• Oversee proper maintenance and sanitation of facility to comply with food safety requirements
• Liaison to FDA, USDA or any other local regulatory body.
• Management and verification of all Environmental Monitoring Programs.
• Management and verification of corrective actions for food safety and quality deviations.
• Demonstrate thorough root cause analysis and follow up skills.
• Identification of food safety and quality risks.
• Management of all Hold and Release Programs.
• Organize and maintain record keeping associated with outlined departments.
• Oversee general sanitary operations of facility and exterior grounds through management of Pest Control Company
• Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department.
• Analyze and document department processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiencies.
• Management of Approved Supplier Program
• Collaborate with Sales on customer inquiries and requests
• Organize staff scheduling to include: work assignments, training, vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, and back up for absent employees.
• Coach and develop the team through proper training, monitoring and mentoring.
• Effective communication with the team and within the team.
• Effective interdepartmental communication.
• Execution of all company disciplinary procedures.
• Promote a teamwork environment and maintain high employee morale.
• Display and demand professional conduct at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of food safety and quality experience, with management level experience in USDA, DFA and/or FDA.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, GMP's, SSOP's and GAP's.
• Previous experience with GFSI (SQF, BRC etc.) and USDA/FDA audits desirable. GFSI practitioner, HACCP and PCQI certification preferred.
• Able to work unsupervised and manage independently
• Strong communication skills, proficient in English reading and writing, detail orientation, computer skills (MS Office, Excel), and knowledge of Database, Inventory, Manufacturing, and SAP software.
• Working knowledge of food safety and quality assurance principles.
• Ability to uphold regulatory, company and customer standards.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing and/or pulling, occasional lifting (50 lbs). Moderate exposure to high humidity, and extremes of hot and cold temperatures are possible.

Wage Scale: 67000.00 - 110000.00
