Job Description:

The Lean Manufacturing Engineer will support the operations, engineering, and production teams by providing direct manufacturing engineering support and driving continuous and lean improvement opportunities. Responsible for executing Lean Manufacturing methods. Must utilize lean tools and train all plant personnel about using these tools to identify waste and reduce costs. Perform cost or benefit analysts to determine the return of investment (ROI) of capital expenditures and project initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing layouts to improve workflow velocity and minimize bottlenecks.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts.
  • Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods using RCA, 8D, 5 why.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
  • Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control.
  • Evaluate current manufacturing practices and identify those needing improvement.
  • Conduct time studies and implement improvements to reduce cycle times and increase throughput.
  • Develop and implement training programs to educate personnel on Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement lean practices and reduce lead times.
  • Participate and Lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work in concert with quality and supply chain to qualify and/or source vendors.
  • Proactively train and support machine operations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with A minimum of 3-4 years related experience.
  • Knowledge of applications of cutting tools, fixture design, CNC methods, work cells and all phases of machining in a precision machining environment.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multifunctional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience in 8D, 5 why, etc.
  • Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing experience/skill set (certifications a plus).
  • Ability to provide accurate manufacturing processes in detail to facilitate efficient manufacturing operations while minimizing defective material and scrap.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with vendors, customers, and employees.
  • Must have knowledge of computers, machining and assembly practices, tooling and fixturing.
  • Experience with ergonomic safety and application.
