Complex Structures Group (CSG), a minority-owned and -operated structural steel erection company in the Chicago area, is seeking an experienced Project Estimator to be based in Merrillville, Indiana. The Project Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, steel fabricators, and other stakeholders on cost and quantity estimation, bid preparation and negotiation, risk assessment, and project adjustment.
Responsibilities
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and measurements from structural design drawings to establish steel erection quantities required for projects.
Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine an accurate steel erection cost estimate for material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
Prepare clear and complete proposals for steel erection scope-of-work, including preparation of project schedules and development of value-engineering opportunities.
Follow up on quoted projects, negotiate project pricing and attend scope review sessions as needed.
Identify potential risks and opportunities within projects, providing insights and recommendations to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
Review and coordinate contracts, scope reviews, and purchase orders for awarded projects.
Prepare quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and change proposals for post-award design changes.
Continuously update material, labor, and freight cost analyses; including such tasks as performing post-project cost analysis to compare estimated costs against actual costs, determining areas for improvement, and identifying cost-saving strategies.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of organization's estimating programs and processes.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree, or 5 years' experience in related field preferred.
Skills
Ability to read and clearly understand blueprints and construction specifications
Conceptual understanding of structural steel and miscellaneous metal construction
Advanced computer skills with proficiency in basic Microsoft programs (Excel, Work, Outlook), Bluebeam and other industry programs, and construction estimating software (Procore, Planswift, etc.)
